and the priorities of the congress. so i'll start with an overview of our analysis of the budget and the economy. we project economic growth and job creation will continue over the coming decade, but also a worrysome trajectory for the federal budget. not since world war ii has the country seen deficits during times of low unemployment as large as we project. nor in the past century has the united states experienced deficits for as long as we project. we project real gdp will expand at 2.2% this year driving continued job creation and historically low unemployment rate. we anticipate consumer spending spurred by rising wages will remain strong, and we expect business investment to rebound as several of the factors that weighed on businesses last year abate. in our projections for the later years of the coming decade, gdp growth moderates and settles back to its maximum sustainable growth rate that we see as 1.7%. that growth rate is lower than the historical average, because of long-term demographic trends. the united s
