"on south carolina and that sort of early state window the democrats tried toprotect . and so the dnc and their delegates would not be seated at the convention. hillary clinton was behind the ball at the time went in and campaigned heavily inboth states . trying to find some sort of momentum to revive her primary campaign. barack obama stayed away and clinton won both of those states read her delegates didn't count until the claim clear obama was going to win. they struck a deal and the delegations to show up at the convention anyway although their votes for half of what they would have read in 2016, bernie sanders was the one who was behind the eight ball and was trying to find a place of to get ahead of clinton and he found it in michigan. he stunned the

's inability to secure broad support among african-american voters is turning out to be the achilles' heel of his campaign especially with a rival like biden who has long-standing support with that reliable voting block advocate number of endorsements, sanders was asked if he could see a path to the nomination without support

is, where northern michigan, central michigan, western michigan, all of those counties were huge for sanders in 2016. it looks like he's going to lose all of them last night. the big story here, i should say in michigan when you started looking at the exit polls, the african american vote was close to 20% of this state. it looks about the same as it did four years ago. it was close to a 40-point victory for biden over sanders. the white vote changed dramatically. four years ago bernie sanders won the white vote in michigan by 14 points. he has now lost to according to the exit poll by 11. so a 25 point swing among white voters. that's non college white and college white. it just accounts for the sweep of the state, what looks like a sweep of the state by joe biden. raises all sorts of questions about a state that was critical in general election too. if joe biden might be more acceptable to the voters who swung michigan away from the democrats in 16 than hillary clinton. >> so what changed, steve? because we saw that giant rally in ann arbor for bernie sanders just a couple days ago.

obviously it starts with michigan. can bernie sanders win michigan tomorrow? psychologically, win the big state that he won four years ago. that's a huge one for his campaign to be able to boast about. the polling does not look good in michigan right now for bernie sanders. his campaign will say it didn't look good for him on the eve of the michigan primary four years ago. also, missouri is going to go tomorrow. missouri was almost a dead even state in 2016. about 1500 votes separated sanders and clinton again since suggestions of slippage, the expectations are not god for sanders there, but he's got to keep it close at least. he's got to be competitive in missouri. mississippi depose tomorrow. that's expected to be a blood bath. that's a state in a region where bernie sanders has done terribly four years ago. is doing terribly this year. sanders though, north dakota. does he have a shot there. small state, but could he put up a win there, one up in idaho and of course washington state. these were all big sanders wins. the wild card this time is they have swit

that is in michigan. missouri,ries in another win for the former vice president, approaching nearly 60% of the vote compared to 33.9% for senator sanders. mississippi, a significant win with joe biden getting the lion's share of the delegate in that southern state. 80% of the vote for joe biden, and sen. sanders: 15.4%. if he holds that margin, he will get a handful of delegates in mississippi. so as you look at those numbers and see those numbers, what is your reaction? is early, butit the big take away for me is missouri. it was one of the closest states in 2016, i think kerry clinton beat out bernie sanders by less than 2000 votes -- hillary clinton. when the votes were called early and biden had a commanding lead in that state, it says a lot. it says something about joe biden's strength among black voters. he is winning with a lot of different kinds of voters, but have.voters really elevated his campaign they have stuck with him and they are powering his commanding lead in the south in states like mic

i signed an agreement between michigan and the u.s. department of labor to implement pandemic unemployment assistance and compensation programs. to grant benefits to workers who do not already qualify for unemployment benefits. hese workers include the self-employed, 1099 independent contractors, and low-wage workers who can no longer work because of the pandemic. the agreement includes weekly benefits for all unemployed workers by $600 and extends benefit payments from 26-39 weeks. i excepted the recommendation of the u.s. army corps of engineers, the detroit district for an alternative care facility onversion in the city of detroit this space will have 900 bed spaces, approximately. we have a few more upgraded -- updated numbers. as of 3:00 yesterday, we have 5486 confirmed cases, 32 deaths. we will not see the benefit of these aggressive efforts for little while. that is why it is important that everyone continues to do their part. it is important to pause and remember each of these had stories and families and friends and loved one

you cannot do that just with michigan. even if he wins michigan, he has to look at places like mississippi, which could give biden a huge advantage tonight. >> if he eaks out michigan, winning the state will not mean very much. . >> it's a nice headline but it's a delegate race. ultimately, that's what it comes down to. on top of that bernie's own record, by virtue of being the front runner when asked, if he would pledge the delegate leader at the convention, and he said yes. so he's got a double task ahead of him now. >> after taking a different position four years ago. hidy, what about the women voters you have spoken to, nationally the women voters, the importance of the elizabeth warren endorsement, if there is going to be one, and the fact that there are no viable women left still competing for this nomination. are people talking about that where you are? >> yes. and just look at the women who were in the race. if you want it bring it down to a numbers game. there was kamala harris, amy klobuchar, kirsten gillibrand.

that happened because we showed up in every community in michigan. my first day on the campaign trail, i was in flynn the. we went to all 83 counties. when you show up for people, you deliver for them and that's how you win elections. joe biden showed up before, during and beyond election season to be there for the people of michigan time and time again. we know he has our back, and we will have is. >> a precedent that is, i heard the complaints all over michigan, as you know my civil rights work has a strong chapter there, i heard a lot of complaints that hillary clinton didn't campaign enough in detroit and her campaign misled her. are you making a complicit statement about the clinton campaign and are you saying than joe biden will do better that mrs. clinton was accused or or at least her campaign was? >> i'm saying you definitely have to show up to earn people's vote and earn people's trust. you have to ask people to note for you and tell them why. as i said, i was a sanders voting in 2016. they didn't reach out what it would talk to me about wh

michigan secretary of state now says 1 million people voted earlier in michigan, that's nearly double the amount of absentee ballots from the 2016 primary. the state is kind of getting the hang of a new law now allows any any voter to cast an absentee ballot for any reason. with that said, joe biden is the projected winner here. michigan was considered basically make or break for the bernie sanders campaign bernie sanders campaign. sanders himself was emphasizing how critical this state was to him and now he is the projected loser. back in 2016, during the primary, michigan was a marquee win for sanders, and upset over hillary clinton. now that sanders is projected to lose michigan, his path moving forward is increasingly difficult, both in momentum and the delegate count. here in the detroit area, wayne and oakland counties joe biden is doing very well. this is a voter rich area critical for a michigan won with a large number of black voters. and two other critical counties on the western side of the state of michigan, kent and ottawa counties, unofficial turnouts appear to show much
