unlike the democratic convention where they're considering a virtual convention, it's been ronna mcdaniel has said publicly that the rules of the rnc don't allow her to hold a full virtual convention. so there has to be some in-person element, but there are some talks behind the scenes about maybe a scaled back version of that. one thing surprising in that report you just showed is that president trump himself has mused why can't we just hold this thing in a ballroom in florida where the state is closer to opening up? why can't we just move it there? it's unlikely to move from charlotte unless the mayor and the governor agree, but it's kind of counter to what you'd think trump would want, a huge show. he's kind of said, let's just do it in a state that i need and like. >> imagine that. hey, jonathan lemire, we've got -- we're bumping right up against 40 million unemployed, again that we know of, people who have filed as a result of losing their job. i saw the banner behind the president today in michigan. this is going to make a transition to greatness more difficult, is it not? >> brian,

charles, look, at the end of the day, president trump, republican national committee leadership of ronna mcdaniel and republican national convention under the leadership of marcia lee kelly want to have the gop convention in charlotte, north carolina. this is up to the democrat governor, governor cooper. has to sell his constituents, city of charlotte, the state of south carolina, to open up economy and allow for a convention that can have almost $200 million coming into the state indirectly and directly. this is thousands of visitors, over 3,000 some events just outside of the convention itself. in the global pandemic we're in, with the economic conditions they are for small business owners, restaurants, all things happening in charlotte, we need to have this convention here. governor cooper should open it up for the economy alone. charles: paris, he says he is relying on science. do you know what the parameters are he is looking at? has he been able to share that with the public? >> i have not seen those data or science recommendations that he is relying on but i do know that the gop convention

i will bring in rnc chairwoman, ronna romney mcdaniel. thanks for joining us. there are so many stories. we've seen salon owners, a 77-year-old man, the state couldn't get a judgment from this man, they went and snatched his license from them because he wanted to just cut hair. we're hearing too many of these stories, ronna. >> this is really typical what we're seeing here in michigan. the governor is applying one size fits all approach to our state. she completely eliminated any type of bipartisan talks with the republican led senate or house. she refuses to listen to people really hurting. she dismissed them as political opponents rather than small business owners who are saying give me an opportunity to tell you how i can run my business safely and keep my life and my livelihood. those are the things that are unfortunate to see not just my state of michigan but many states across the country. people can balance how we safely get back to work and take precautions for coronavirus in the work place but also get back to work to keep this economy going. keep my s

you are seeing several republicans of state do this as well we heard from rodney mcdaniel, the rnc chair woman, she said she doesn't have a problem sending those applications for the mail-in votes for the fact when you apply for one, that ensures are you who you say you are. the president is continuing to go against this despite it causing a pretty big headache for his political aids. of course, michigan is a battleground state and he ties this to what he believes will happen in november, jake. >> one wonders, if he is saying this right now so as to cast doubt about the november election if it doesn't go the way he wants. otherwise, it doesn't make any sense why he is only attacking the vote by mail or absentee ballot efforts in michigan and nevada as opposed to everywhere including states he will definitely win and including the congressional district that just flipped from democrat to republican. congresswoman katie hill's old district thanks so much. joining me now cnn medical chief correspondent dr. sanjay gupta. one of the questions we are wondering about is ford has made it very cl
