steve: dan springer joins us live from seattle with a list of demands and dan have they chang ed the name of that area? >> they have, steve in fact it used to be the capitol hill autonomous zone, but over the weekend they decided that didn't sound quite right because this isn't really something that they want to take from the city of seattle or the country of the united states, so they changed it to chop, which means the capitol hill occupation protest and you can see that sign here over my shoulder and this is one of the barricaded entrances to the chop, and you can see it's pretty chill and people are really here as guards to make sure that people don't drive their vehicles in there unless they are approved to be dropping off things and the number of donations has really grown. we see that this has also grown into a pretty large area of tents and we come here we can show you that this is a soccer field, baseball field, and when i was here on friday, there were no tents on the field but now it's lined with tents and back over in the far corner you can see there's a place where peopl

dan springer is just outside that area. i saw your report last night just before -- i was on tucker carlson show just after you, and the protester that was yelling at you, it just seemed very chaotic. what is it like today? >> we were just outside of one of the barricades and those two knuckleheads came up and tried to disrupt our live report, but we have actually fallen back to a couple of blocks away from that now because our presence is not wanted there, but there's been a lot of reporting that there are a lot of guns inside. there were not a lot of guns, however that did happen the very first night, people with long guns there, but clearly these protesters were in this for the long haul. the first couple of days they were calling this the capitol hill autonomous zone but today, that sign was knocked down and we are hearing it being referred to as an occupying protest. either way, this is a 24/7 demonstration that has grown into a commune of sorts. there were lots of tents, food stations, people here to get first aid and

springer who's been on the ground for days. what can you tell us about the situation? >> an extraordinary day in seattle. after 10 days of constant protesting outside this precinct, protesting that often devolves into writing late in the night east precinct has been abandoned by the city police department. they left the building and are allowing protesters access around it, you can see crews put plywood over the windows and a chain-link fence, the building has been spray-painted by looters and some of the protesters, plastic water barricades, moved to block police if they do come back. earlier today we saw a big concrete steel barricades removed, police were seen leaving with boxes and other valuable items and then we saw the final retreat with dozens of national guard troops and seattle police officers leaving the area, the police chief says this is giving the protesters what they asks for. >> we are not going to evacuate or abandon the precinct. we will board up the exterior windows, evaluate the fire suppression system and a

dan springer is back on that story from seattle. what's the latest, dan? >> yeah, bill, the significance here is that there really was a negotiation between some of the protesters and the city and as you mentioned, really the first time in 8 days that the city is taking some control of this zone from seven blocks down to three. and also emergency vehicles will now be able to get in and get out of the chop. city crews showed up this morning around 7:00 while most of the several hundred protesters who stay here full time still sleeping. they started by taking down the makeshift steel and plastic barricades put up by protesters. those were replaced by concrete dividers, closer to the east precinct and some streets were completely opened up allowing better access to businesses and apartment buildings while still giving space to the protesters. >> it's about trying to find a medium ground in which everyone can meet and at least start the dialogue for what is going on and what happens in the future. >> this is the first step, a positive step. people are taking c
