kevin: precisely. ,rom the political angle speaker pelosi has to funnel that anger from the far left flank of her party. let's not forget that progressives like congresswoman alexandria ocasio-cortez are really seizing on this moment as the way to really define the future of not just a democratic party, but how business is conducted in washington for progressives as a whole. the backdrop is the biden campaign continuing to unveil some of their economic agenda, so two very different tracks emerging for the democratic party right now. one, the presumptive democratic nominee unveiling these types of economic proposals, but meanwhile, a new contingency of progressive lawmakers saying we are the ones who are going to be negotiating with republicans in the long term. expiration jon was talking about of enhanced jobless benefits, republicans are talking about bringing that down to $200 and then have states supplement up to 70% of pre-existing wages. how realistic is it that the states will be able to do that,

kevin: yes. democrats are trying to reframe this in terms of in order to get economy reopened, you have to defeat the virus. i was struck reading the tea leaves by the former fed chair, janet yellen, last week said she thinks another round of dodd-frank might be needed. for her to say that, that could be the type of messaging democrats are going to embrace ahead of the 2020 cycle and could call for new reforms for big businesses. that could be an opportunity for the former vice president to unify the progressive flank, the elizabeth warren weighing of the party with his centrist remy. -- wing. the biting campaign has suggested we are not that far out from the vice president unveiling a plan, and that could come within the short-term. they did not want to put a timeline on it but maybe before the next round of stimulus. jonathan: we would see it sooner rather than later. kevin corke is on the situation for us tonight. what's the latest, kevin? >> i've been following jorge ventura, one of the reporters that i actually saw a great deal when i was down there covering the protests in what is now known as black lives matter plaza and as part of his reporting his showing his video right here i street being blocked off to normal traffic flow. they did allow a bust of protesters to pastor but as you can see there, i street has now been blocked for regular auto traffic and just to give you sort of a sense of where that is in relation to the white house, i can see the grill there, this is about a block and a half north of lafayette park. if you go up 16 the block and if you hang may be a and go half a block, that's what we are looking at. and as you see there still a large contingent of law enforcement officers and officials just along h street. sort of follow the alphabet. they are there right along the parking is to see the fame it saved john's episcopal church right now we do know that auto traffic is being impeded by protesters a

kevin: yes. however, if you get one lawmaker, whether it is a far right or far left individual holding up the calendar, that is where the piecemeal approach runs into significant problems. tom: one final question. what are you going to look for today on the hill? we are all wrapped up in the back and forth, and as i said earlier, the hand-to-hand combat. what are you going to look for? kevin: i am really interested in the payroll tax cut. i do think it is separate from this broader piece of economic stimulus. however, i think it is a longer-term strategy that goes beyond the short-term, beyond the urgency for economic relief because it speaks directly to the middle class. it is a debate that many republicans have wanted to have for years. i am just seeing how they sell that. jonathan: i get it. i just don't know ace in the republican that has said they endorse it. the only person is larry kudlow. kevin: because president trump wants to get on the debate stage in a couple of months against joe bid

kevin: for the unemployment benefits, absolutely. i think on the payroll tax cut, it is a bit more open for debate. to your point, to all of your points, i think specifically on where the end employment benefits are headed, it has been an uncomfortable debate for republicans to be having, not with democrats, but with themselves because of the dynamics of their communities. the next round of economic stimulus, i think the behind-the-scenes conversations are that this likely will get past before august, and there's another round potentially that will be needed in the fall. lisa: this is all meant to be a bridge to the other side, but the other side is getting further and further away as the virus count increases to record highs. what has been the strategy of the white house? how has it shifted as we see the proposal of lockdowns restarting in places like florida, arizona and california? kevin: let's go through the politics, the personality, and personality of what's been going on. from a political standpoint, i think the president has
