the truth is, you will not be safe in joe biden's america. after years of plummeting crime rates under president trump, joe biden would double down on the policies that are leading to violence on the streets of american cities. when democrats call for defunding the police, remember what is at stake -- law and order, safety, and the peace of mind that our families and our children have every right to expect in the greatest nation on earth. case, on thetheir airwaves of the nation next week, i want you to hear this directly from me, on behalf of the president of the united states and our entire administration, we are not going to defund the police, not now, not ever. also saying that the choice in this election is whether america remains america he then turn around and he preys on trump it's really one of the things he does best you know touting the economy that's been faring well until the pandemic and he also did what a lot of other speakers have not done which was to actually talk about the coronavirus. he praised the administration's efforts which he has helped lead and also said that they're on track to have the world's 1st 1st safe effective coronavirus vaccine by the end of this year. there was some speculation that penn's foot maybe used this stage to try to set him up for a potential run in 2024. and there were really moments where he is felt like he sees that opportunity to not only appear vice presidential but really presidential friends is when he reached out and expresses support and in you know condolences to people who are now in the path of hurricane laura. i think you know supporters will be very happy with this speech and if you don't care about facts it was objectively speaking i think very solid speech. but it really captured

the choice in this election is if america remains america. [applause] if in this moment in our generation, we will stand up for everything that has always made america unique and exceptional -- our commitment to freedom and liberty and justice for all, but i have to tell you, looking out at all of you, i know we are going to choose the path of freedom. we are going to choose the path of opportunity. 4 moregoing to choose years of president trump in the white house. [cheers and applause] and i believe it is going to happen because i see faces like yours everywhere i go. just like 4 years ago, when the pundits were all counting him out, i never did. because i was out traveling among the american people. in 2016. our campaign he would go to cities and literally draw tens of thousands of people. i would go to places and literally hundreds of people would show up. [laughter] same. was all the it was people who knew we could be strong again, who knew america could be respected again, could be standing tall again, and the great news is, as we travel

i'll protect america i would defend us from every attack see. always without exception every time our correspondent alan fischer has been following the night events from wilmington in delaware allen you get a sense of what was an impassioned speech by joe biden but the question is did his message resonate with americans particularly those swing voters who he needs to attract. well there's a couple of things that point 1st of all right to the beginning of the speech joe biden said well he is the democratic candidate he will be an american president that was clearly him throwing his arms out saying look if you're disillusioned by this president please come on board vote for me we can change the way america is headed the 2nd thing is that he managed to criticize this president without actually using the name donald trump 4 years ago hillary clinton mentioned donald trump 22 times in a convention speech this time joe biden made 0 mentions that was a very savvy move because he defined the president without actually using the name donald trump no what
