dan: it might, jonathan. i agree with you. i thought those speeches were markedly different in tone, not necessarily in substance. both had some harsh things to say about biden. nonetheless in the totality of the way the speeches were put together and the delivery, i think they were different from the others. i think the challenge for president trump is that there is so much known about him and the judgments about him have been made for such a long time that i don't know a surrogate or validator can do much to change that. we will see. i suspect we will hear some more speeches like that through the course of the week. they did stand out from being different in the way they sounded. jonathan: anne, let me end on a different subject. there is a new book coming out by stephanie winston walkoff and a couple of weeks. do you know anything about it? she ran the trump inaugural committee. anne: right. she is an old friend of melania trump, who will be the main speaker tonight, tuesday night's portion. this book appears to be sort of

joseph maguire, who is installed of director of national intelligence after dan coats gets fired -- dan coats, says, no, i won't change that assessment in the nie. maguire gets put in. maguire okays the change, this change to the intelligence, dropping the clear statement that russia was working to elect trump. joseph maguire was also the intelligence director who refused to forward to congress the whistle-blower complaint from a cia analyst about the president and ukraine, the complaint that ultimately led to kicking off the president's impeachment. and this is remarkable. ultimately from draper's reporting, it appears to have been the same day that joseph maguire testified about that whistle-blower thing in the morning, public testimony, he indignantly stood up for his own integrity saying in all his years in government service, his integrity had never before been questioned. in the morning he went up to capitol hill and gave this soliloquy to congress about sitting on the whistle-blower complaint to protect donald trump, and how nobody should question his integrity around that. that'

dan: i guess so. they do have a vulnerability, i have to say, i was pretty astonished with all the way through the democratic convention without a single speaker addressing these urban pilot -- not only the violent urban protest but extraordinary rise in black on black crime in inner-city neighborhoods, orders for instance. they didn't bring up any of that and now kenosha is on fire and there was looting in minneapolis again in the last several nigh nights. target, they were hit minneapolis again. it's a day late and a dollar short, especially joe biden to be criticizing it. i think they have been afraid somehow that with the rise of the left in the democratic party younger voters, black lives matter movement in which they have affiliated themselves, they were going to somehow alienate this section of the democratic base, i think that is a poor calculation. a mistake they probably going to pay a price, it's a little late to finally say your condemning this extraordinary violence. kyle, let me ask you

dan, i will start with you. give me your initial reaction to the speech last night by former vice president and now democratic presidential nominee, joe biden. dan: i thought it was a very strong speech, probably one of the best speeches of a former vice president and now democratic nominee has given his long career. this has been a pretty successful convention up to last night. but all conventions eventually depend on the performance of the nominee. there are questions about whether biden was going to rise to that moment. i think he did. i thought it was thematically strong. i thought the delivery was quite forceful it it answered questions i think the trump campaign has tried to put out there that joe biden is not up to the moment. i thought last night he was up to the moment. one other, this convention has reinvented what conventions will be in the future. they have shown a new way to do it. one of the things that this convention showed is there is a value in short speeches. this was probably one of the short

dan: 75% to 80%. for microsoft, it fell on their lap. christmas morning came early in terms of this asset. they are the only ones in town that can buy. the faang names, they are up to their eyeballs and regulatory swirls. this would be a major turn in terms of social media. i think it is worth $200 billion three years from now. there's a high likelihood of this getting done for bytedance, backs against the wall. if it is not microsoft, ultimately that is a dark chapter to go down. emily: 75% to 80% is a pretty high likelihood in a very controversial environment. the president set a deadline that seems to be done in the next 45 days. do you really think they could do a deal that quickly? dan: i think the technology issues and security issues in terms of the lines of code, cross-pollination between u.s. and china, that is going to take some time to actually get worked out. think deal perspective, i $35 billion, $40 billion for u.s. assets along with canada, new zealand and australia. they want to get this deal done. for facebook and zucker

this is really a coup. >> joanna, i'll let you respond to that, but everything dan laid out is why i understand to some extent it makes sense that this be a company owned by an american company that we can trust, but it's a huge win for microsoft. perhaps the process should be more competitive or something, i don't know what do you think? >> it's funny, i spent the last 24 hours speaking to tiktokers, asking them what they were thinking about this ban, what they were going to do. one of the questions i kept asking was what about microsoft, what do you think about microsoft? they didn't have any thoughts about microsoft. it's really not a huge presence in this generation's life. as dan points out, this could be the moment this could be micromicrosoft's n to be remembered in the social media world. >> 100%. quick, final question, dan what's your kind of evaluation of microsoft now absent this deal, and what would your evaluation be if this happens? >> i think this could add 100, 200 billion to the market. i heard from investors on the weekend, this is a social media piece and that's wh
