the main jail here in downtown san jose just around 1:40 this morning. the suspect 40-year-old joseph castro had just been arrested for a probation violation and mail theft or forgery. now, the s.o. tells us castro was handcuffed by his back, seated in the back of the suv. somehow castro was able to break into the rear cargo area located behind his seat and get that officer's handgun that had been knowed there. now the officer tried to restrain castro, but castro allegedly fired off several shots toward the officer again with his hands still cuffed behind his back. the officer retreated, call in backup. the jail was locked down and sealed off several blocks in the area. castro continued to fire off shots at around 5:50 this morning. a tactical team moved in, broke a window in the suv and took castro back into custody. no one was hurt during all of this. the sheriff's office says that law enforcement is required to secure their weapons in the back of their vehicle any time they are driving a suspect in for booking. >> it is important to note that this off
