i'm anne-marie green. we're going to start things off this mornin with louisiana, bracing for hurricane delta. the category 3 storm is packing 120-mile-per-hour winds, also threatening deadly storm surge. some areas could get 15 inches of rain. delta is expected to hit later on today and it is intensifying as it bears down on the gulf coast. courtney zabowski is in lafayette, louisiana. this storm is expected to hit that area pretty hard. it is still reeling from hurricane laura six weeks ago. how are people preparing, what is going on? >> reporter: what we're hearing from people is not again. right now it is a category 3 and it could weaken, but at this point, forecasters predicted it would strengthen overnight it did and now it is headed straight for the louisiana coast. residents along louisiana's gulf coast are packing up, and heading north again. >> it is getting tiresome. >> it is part of being here. i mean, the good times far outweigh the bad. >> reporter: vic and bebe are under a mandatory evacuati

i'm anne-marie green. researchers in the united kingdom are looking into why some coronavirus patients are taking longer than usual to recover. ian lee has the story. >> reporter: vicki born went from ziplining on vacation and hitting the gym several times a week to dealing with waves of illness after catching the coronavirus in march. >> i lost my sense of taste and smell again. it just went completely. i get really wheezy and breathless and have to use an inhaler twice a day. >> reporter: she is experiencing what doctors call long covid. thousands of people share a similar experience. so they asked coronavirus patients to log their symptoms on an app. most recovered in under 11 days. but 1 in 7 were sick for more than a month while 1 in 50 reported being sick for more than 12 weeks. doctors say people at higher risk for long covid have more than five symptoms in their first week, are over 50, women and have asthma. >> we wanted to have an individual of how much that might affect people. especially as we

ann marie: what about the other swing states, president trump is doubling down in iowa and mike pence went there and is going there this weekend. given the swing states, we see the midwest states pick up in these covid cases. what are we expecting if joe biden wins the white house in terms of covid? will there be a mandate for mask wearing, what kind of mandates can we see on the national level if he was given a chance at controlling the pandemic? candice: joe biden in january suggested a plan how he would handle covid. the biggest contrast to president trump in office now is we would see a lot more coordination between states that decisions wouldn't be independently made in washington alone without consultation with governors even at the local level in certain cities. applying particularly to the midwest before this gets out of even more control right now, we would need to consider things such as mask mandates, for example, as we've seen in germany which can really have an impact. jon: what decisions have washington made that you think are the wrong ones, candice? candice: they reall
