and cnn's fred pleitgen joins us now. he's in central germany where a vaccination distribution center is being constructed as we speak. fred, how will this distribution center work, exactly, and how many more will likely be built? >> hi there, rosemary, the germans, they plan on making dozens of vaccination centers around germany. they were talking about around 60 of these. looks like a lot more than that. a lot of this has to do with the fact that a lot of vaccines coming on the market probably fairly soon have to be stored at ultra cold temperatures. essentially what the germans are saying is better make some of the vaccine centers where you can store vaccines easily skprnand have the center come here. you have to give a shout out to the guys working here. this is the german disaster relief agency, technical assistance agency, and they are leading the construction of the center under pandemic conditions. we're wearing the ffp 2 masks because they're working inside, and have to be protected as well. essentially everythin

here's cnn's chief medical correspondent, dr. sanjay gupta. >> well, we know today is going to be filled with about nine hours of meetings among this advisory committee for the fda, at the end of which they may be making a recommendation as to whether or not this vaccine should be authorized under emergency use. while it's not a forgone conclusion, the fda commissioner and others have telegraphed there is a lot of promise around this vaccine. obviously we have heard from the company and others. we're going to now hear it verified about just how effective, efficacious this vaccine is. we have heard, you know, 90% plus. we're going to hear about the safety profile, but also other questions, for example, if you've had the infection already, should you still get a vaccine. another question, if there are 40 million doses, should you give 40 million people the first dose, and manufacture the second dose because people may get some protection with the first dose. as important as it is to figure out who should first get the vaccine, anot

cnn's alex marquardt live in washington. alex, the government late to acknowledge this hack, late to discover this hack, and apparently late to understand the full scope of it. what do we know? >> reporter: let's look at the timeline. the first revelations about this hack against the government came out on sunday night, almost five days ago. and since then, pretty much the only thing that has become clear is how extraordinarily widespread this could be. otherwise, u.s. officials are still struggling to figure out which agencies and which departments have been hit, how badly, and what was taken or spied on by these attackers, who are believed to be packed by the russian government. we actually may never know the full extent of the breach. this is how the fbi, the intelligence community, and the department of homeland security's icyber agency put it in an overnight statement. they learned about it over the course of the past several days, saying this is a developing situation. and while we continue to work to understand the fu
