kpix 5's andria borba live at the chinese consulate in san francisco with those details, andria? >> reporter: well, east bay congressman eric swalwell says there was no wrong doing and he cooperated fully with the fbi and stopped speaking to this chinese national who turned out to be a spy back in 2015. but the story was released yesterday by axios. spies and politicians, it sounds ripped out of an episode of the americans, but according to the fbi, christine fang, a chinese national and a student at cal state east bay was doing more than just studying stateside in the early 2010s. fang was contacting bay area political players like the former mayor of fremont volunteering with ro canna's campaign and targeting a young eric swalwell. the information about fang was first publicly revealed in an axios article yesterday. >> these were individuals who were important in local politics but potentially could become really important in national politics. >> reporter: former fremont mayor bill harrison is among those who fang met with under the guise of a student leader, only to be surpri
