devin fehely joins us now. what is the latest? what can you tell us? >> reporter: there is still a large number of police officers, firefighters and paramedics that are here on the scene. as you can see behind me there is an ambulance that has been positions at this intersection, largely as a precaution at this point. it is located about a block or two from the factory itself. the san jose fire department says around 4:00 this afternoon there was a chemical spill at the kellogg's waffle factory here in east san jose. now, specifically, it was a release of ammonia. the fire department, once they arrived, they evacuated that factory. they did as you mentioned treat one person here at the scene and released them. they have instructed anyone that lives nearby to stay inside their homes or parchments, to keep the windows and doors shut until they get the all clear. we did talk to one gentleman who left his home a few hours after this first happened. he says thankfully the symptoms he experienced were relatively mild. >> my eyes were itchy. and i was like in

.>>> i'm devin fehely in santa clara county where public health officials are clearing up and cleaning up a mistake that allowed dozens of people to sign up for appointments to get vaccinated even though they were not eligible. they were ultimately turned away but public health officials say it's problems exactly like this that are slowing the system down at a re thpeople showed up at the county's vaccination sites armed with an appointment and ready to get a shot. the only problem was that they were not healthcare workers or nursing home residents and therefore they were not eligible. >> it is taking up slots that would otherwise be going to people who are eligible. we are checking and verifying eligibility so it's very important that people stop sharing that misinformation. >> county officials say emails and text messages have been circulating with links to the states cal vax website that allow people to make appointments even if it's not their term. the county has asked the state to fix the problem. >> we are trying to get people vaccinated, right. but if people are doing things tha

devin fehely has more on what is holding them back. >> reporter: public health officials gave the board of supervisors an update and say their problems are twofold. they aotin'sbut ev they ramp up efforts, they risk running out of their supply of the vaccine. so far, the biggest problem has been distribution. the county has more than 170,000 doses of the vaccine but have only given a roughly 52,000 shots, fewer than 2000 a day. they will really need to speed that up to get everyone vaccinated by their goal deadline of august 1. but even if they do they say it creates another problem. public health officials warning they will quickly exhaust their supply of the vaccine. >> right now we do not have in our freezers enough to last one week, let alone being able to do 35,000 a week.>> right now the county says they have enough supply of the vaccine. but as they speed things up and begin to open up clinics and vaccination centers, they say they will need some kind of guarantee from the federal government that there will be more shipments to resupply them or else they risk running out of their

devin fehely is live in san jose to explain how public health officials are trying to avoid a worst-case scenario either running out of beds or nurses and doctors to staff them. >> reporter: that is pretty frightening. when a healthcare system reaches its breaking point, it is called care rationing and basically in simple terms it means doctors decide i think this patient has a better chance than this one, so this one gets the bed and the ventilator and this one doesn't. it is an awful situation for everyone involved. the healthcare providers making those decisions, and the patient's on the receiving end of them and public officials say we are not so far away from not becoming a reality. there treated more coronavirus patients than any other in santa clara county. during the interview, the hospital was on diversion, turning new patients away. because they were simply too full and too overwhelmed to help. >> we are making sure the sickest, the sick are getting the care they need because there is considerable waits and delays for the patient's. >> reporter: the regional stay- at-home order

fehely. now let's check the weather with meteorologist darren peck. >> still have left there were showers, light rain moving through the south bay and coming for a closer look in a second. but if you just waking up it will be damp out as we picked up one 10th of an inch of rain for the north a and 107 inch of rain south. one place with no measurable rain is san jose but when we look at the high death doppler it shows 50 thanks to all the clouds. the latest check in a closer inspection shows that san jose it could be a chance that it will not be a lot. the rain is falling mainly in the hills and not on the planes. if they get up into the diablo mountains to find any rain being forced out of these clouds there we saw light rain move across fremont and milpitas. now this is what to expect, we will keep a few lingering showers until noon. anything we have that would barely be noticeable but i don't want to be taken off guard. if you notice light rain between now and noon. there are more storms on
