i want your reaction to nikki haley's comments to republicans at the winter meeting. basically saying that the president's conduct is deeply disappointing, hasn't always chosen the right words but nonetheless let's not forget all his accomplishments, many of which i just mentioned. the unfortunate part is that the democrats will not be remembering him for his accomplishments. >> julie, nikki haley is spot on. that's what we need to be focused upon and i wish that since the election the president would've reminded america of the four years of things that he has done. you just outlined a number of them. the fact that our energy prices are the best they've been in decades because now we are energy independent. this president's policies have made him life better for every american. the average american family is better off by $6,000 a year because of the tax cuts and the deregulation. those are real things that have helped people. unfortunately i wish that the president spent all of his time since the november election talking about why we are going to miss him rather tha

first of all, olivia, when you hear nikki haley say to give trump a break and as more republicans are publicly defending trump ahead of his impeachment trial that starts next week, how can you hold people responsible when a majority of the party appears to still be unwilling to break from donald trump? >> it's really disappointing to watch people like nikki haley, right, who were once respected in terms of conservative circles, in terms of the republican party. >> and by the way, she's also played a low profile over these trump years. she really doesn't come up and comment all the time. i interpreted that as she was trying to protect her own legacy for potentially something in the future. but then there's this. >> right. i always thought that as well, to be honest. i mean, she's, quite frankly, one of the only senior administration officials that got this grand farewell in the oval office, let us not forget about that, right? she kind of leaves the administration unscathed and so for her to double down like this is really quite baffling and the only thing that i can think of is the fa

let me bring in haley talbot, one of our producers in the capitol. tell us what you are hearing and seeing on the inside. >> thank you so much. so i'm with five other reporters right now and we're in a congressman's office, they are sheltering us. a bunch of members are down the hall. we just took probably about a ten minute walk from the capitol from the house chamber down to longworth. i was in there from 2:00 to 4:00 for the pool shift. and as you saw about 20, 30 minutes in, there was a lot of commotion on the house floor, people were starting to get agitated. we started hearing overhead announcements, there is tear gas in the rotunda, protestors have breached the capitol. we started to get gas masks out from under our seats. some of the other reporters, i think they heard about three gunshots. and we all were holding our masks. after a few minutes, members trying to stay calm and comfort each other. some members from down on the house floor started getting evacuated. i was with tv reporters and then some other members around on the top third flo
