but what is the response to a statement like that from giuliani? >> giuliani who, as a former u.s. attorney, knows better, seems to conveniently forget that the justice department doesn't just go and raid people's apartments. actually has to get an order from a federal judge not a part of the justice department who reviews the warrant and the affidavit attached to it where a federal agent swears under oath to the facts that establish probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed and that the search will enable investigators to recover evidence of those crimes. so for giuliani to, in essence, call in a witch hunt really flies in the face of everything that he knows. i understand it's easy to look at this as being political. this is, after all, the former president's lawyer, and we live in a politically charged environment, but he'll have access to information like that if there is an indictment and a trial. on its face right now, this is doj doing its job, and in this case it appears that that started during president trump's administration when bill barr was the attorne

giuliani has denied any wrongdoing. let's talk with an author of an upcoming biography about rudy giuliani that's due out next year. andrew, thanks so much for being with us. as you're very well aware, giuliani is writing this off as politically motivated. what's your reaction to what's happened? >> i've been covering rudy giuliani for the better part of 20 years. the arc of this story borders on the tragic. the essence of rudy jugiuliani' fame as united states attorney in the 1980s is he was incorruptible. he was kind of the last honest man standing in new york taking on wall trstreet titans. if you would have asked him back then if he was indicted by the same office he was leading, they wouldn't believe you. he was as clean as you could imagine. >> are you surprised that former president trump hasn't said anything? he hasn't made a statement of support or really anything about rudy giuliani. >> you know, if i had to guess, i would think that trump would at some point come out in soup por support of giuliani. the bond

giuliani's attorney robert costello has denied that giuliani has done anything wrong. he suggested that this investigation and the execution of the search warrants was political. he said he twice tried to meet with prosecutors to try to convince them that giuliani's activities were lawful. but he never got that meeting. he's also kind of previewed that we might see a fight here over the electronic devices. in a statement, costello said the electronics taken are also replete with material covered by the attorney/client privilege and other constitutional privileges. so warrant served on mr. giuliani's law office is another disturbing example of complete disregard for the attorney/client privilege protected by the sixth amendment to the constitution. as you may recall, when prosecutors had served that search warrant on michael cohen, that led to a fight over how they would be able to review those materials. this could be something that we see take place here, too. jim, poppy? >> as district attorney years ago, he sought and executed a lot of search warrants himself. remar
