w is john della volpe, the pole and director of the harvard institute of politics to talk about the latest poll taking a look at young voters. thank you for joining us. guest: thank you for having me. host: what is this about? what are you looking for when you compile this information? guest: we have been doing this poll for 21 years. we have had 21 classes of undergraduates who have worked with me in collaboration to write the questions and analyze the data. every single semester we have undergraduates who go through a series of exercises to develop a series of questions they want to know about their peers across the united states. for this particular survey this semester our students clearly wanted to check in on the biden administration the first 100 days. we talked -- they were interested in the efficacy of politics and how that changed over the course of this time period. they are concerned about mental health, trust in institutions, social media, there were a lot of things covered, but the most fun for me is working with these undergraduates to figure out what they want to know about

that's what i teach at harvard. let me tell you, be materialistic, single passes way that you can be miserable about your life. so the key is how we set up a system that people can express yourselves with the creative freedom. it can enjoy their and have a sense of fraternity and find work to enjoy the relationship to get in the work. an answer is relatively free and unfettered labor market, and kabbalistic system in which people have opportunities to lift themselves up in which there pathways in which they can earn their success. so my thoughts of getting better in the developing world, is that we actually make a return to these ideas of self-improvement and the opportunity society to make people more valuable. 70 percent of the people say the best friends on people they have it work. united states is a higher rate of job satisfaction than virtually any other european countries including the republic. i don't think so, the problem not enough people have access to this kind of opportunity and not enough people have

we were classmates at dartmouth, classmates at harvard business school but we were also roommates at harvard business school are first year along with our good friend and classmate from dartmouth, steve mandel, who grew up in -- and live nearby and i know he and his wife sue are plugged in tonight. i will never forget that first week we were at harvard business school to get thrown in as roommates and that awful p from harvard business school and back then they were wrong, as remember, by fear and intimidation. it was the three cases a day, 50% of the class was purchase patient and 50% of grade was class participation in 10% of the class was [inaudible] so there's a lot of pressure to succeed and i will never forgetg with you and steve. we had her own study group and that awful apartment and i cannot keep up with you and steve. you guys were light years ahead of me in every case and got to the right place and i never did and i kept asking guys to help me out which you did but i thought to myself i will flunk out and i'm just not smart enough. pretty quickly after couple days of class
