no, but chief meteorologist lawrence karnow was here, lawrence, it's going to get warmer as the week moves on. i think we're looking at a hot weekend in many parts of area away from the coastline right at the coast getting at that nice fog out there. that's kind of the way we've been seeing a play out high pressure dominating the western half of the u.s. we've seen some very hot temperatures tomorrow. not going to be an exception that ridge going to hold in place. we are going to see the fog. >> low clouds right out of the beaches. but yeah, you head inland. it's going to get hot 108 vegas tomorrow. one of 7 in phoenix, a 103 degrees in boise in some of that energy eventually make its way back out west as we get toward this next weekend as we're going to things up as high pressure starts to build in the bay area. we're looking calm conditions out there right now fog kind of locked in along the coast line temperatures 74 francisco, 61 degrees. foggy skies in the pacific right now at 57 more clouds on the way for tonight. in fact, i think we're going to see a lot of drizzle again tonig

we begin with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. he's been tracking the quakes and a dozens of aftershocks. yeah. boy, it just continues to rattle up there just in the last few minutes we've had another 2.8 as you make your way near markley bill. those areas continuing to rock all the way down in the bridgeport. but you see strong earthquake magnitude six-point-one near topaz lake just to the south of topaz on 3.95 and driven there you can notice the sierra nevada. >> as they just shut up the sky really lifting up. and then we had quakes for the south. they all occurred right around the same time which made it quite interesting as these got so so fast. so, yeah, this is what happened. right along the plate boundaries here. we've got the north american plate and we've got the pacific plate, right between their what we have is the walker lane fault zone. and in that area that has been an area known for some very large earthquakes magnitude 7 or greater for the south. so it's a rather active area and continues to be sold. in fact, righ

lawrence is pointing out chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. here's how this could easily have, you know, hit a car or somebody could serious damage. when you saw the size of those boulders. hundreds of pounds, maybe a 1000 pound boulder coming down. and that's scary. you're driving out there now you really got to slow down. you don't know what's around the next corner. >> you could come right across from those giant boulders, of course, of the aftershocks. we could have more stuff still coming down. now we've kind of seen this afternoon. we're looking at something in the central valley. this one coming as a 4.8 still waiting to see to make sure this is real or just something related to that whole swarm of quakes that moved in across the sierra nevada. and look at that. that 5.9. that's just south topaz lake. magnitude. 4.8 there near lee vining and you can see numerous earthquakes up and down the spine of the sierra nevada and they continue tonight. so they fall along this fault zone. what's known as the walker lane fault zone. an area where w

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. he joins us now. talk about that. places in the pacific northwest finally getting that sea breeze. in fact, some started to move in there. >> welcome sight. now these temperatures have dropped a good 40 degrees and some of those hot spots member just a couple days ago. we're talking a 112 in portland. they're sitting in a very comfortable 73 degrees right now in seattle. that was up to a 108 71 degrees. so things have changed. now that sea breeze returning. but that heat dome is not done is move further inland. you can see all the hot temperatures you get the spokane 104 degrees. there are no mock its a 113 winthrop, a 108 and you can see all around richland a 112 degrees. so still some extremely hot temperatures they extend not only into washington but all the way up into canada. one should get one of these what's called an omega block building in overhead. it takes a long time from the breakdown. so the hot weather the record. he continue not only here but in the candidate, 2 guys. thanks. alerts still to come, thin

on our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is joining us now tracking the latest on the fire conditions. >> and also the smoke too. >> yeah, boy, just a ton of that smoke. and we've been very fortunate, the bay area. but speer. we've had more of a a westerly component. winds we haven't seen any of that smoke for us in this has been going on for quite some time. this pattern set itself up and usually see during the summer months and there you go. high pressure over the 4 corner states. you see the circulation around that ridge all that stuff. moving up on the south at a northward and then over the top of that ridge of high pressure that big dome and that has kept us pretty much smoke free tamarack area. you're seeing more storms rolling through their even some lightning strikes for today. some of the rain moving the fire sections. that's where start to worry about some flash flooding in some debris flow. we were to get some heavy rains rolling on through right now. that's not the case. but that could toward the quincy fire. you see some of the smoke settling down early on in the canyon a

. >> our kron 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here lines. you're looking at a couple of tropical storms right. yeah. boy, things getting active there. of course, fog typical for us. tropical storms this time of year. >> picking up in the pacific. that's not a shocker. this one's really kind of follow each other. we've pair that are on the way now making the way in the middle of the pacific. and so starting to churn up out there getting a little more active as we get further. >> into the summer season right now. we've got fleeced out there. this is a true, a strong tropical storm sustained winds of 65 miles per hour. we've got the police should brother guillermo out there a tropical depression sustained winds of 35 miles per hour. now let's put this into motion show you where the head of the good news is they're going to be moving out in the middle of the pacific becoming more fish storms. in other words, nobody have to worry about it except for the fish out there. maybe a couple of passing boats. both the storms look to weaken here in the ne

oh, earthquake in the sierra got upgraded now kron 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow has a closer look with the details on the quake and the aftershocks. yeah, guys boy is still rumbling up there all around that area. the quakes. >> almost too numerous to count. i'm guessing about 40 quakes now are aftershocks after initial 6 point. oh, that was a strong category earthquake that happened in a major urban area. we're talking about a significant amount of damage. but look at that map just all lit up the areas in yellow. those earthquakes that are older than an hour. the areas in red. those are quakes that have happened within this last hour or so. still very, very active within the last few minutes. we just have another 2.8 that garden bill and they continue all around that area near topaz lake near mark louisville and all the way to walker all right. let's get you back out. west. we go and you can see a gorgeous look toward the golden gate bridge. just a little haze there. but no to fog. now at that marine layer starting to be suppressed. we've got advisories for the heat going up

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow tracking that system and has the details for you guys remember last week we're looking at the storm system became a hurricane, but it was really moving about 30 miles per hour. now also slowdown started interact. now some land masses right now, cuba is getting a pounding by lcc. the storm system kind of disorganized as it's getting closer and closer. then finally moving on shore. but then it's going to move out over some open water. so likely intensify as it does right now sustained winds of 50 miles per hour making it a tropical storm. you see all the areas in orange. those are the tropical storm warnings up right through the keys and along the western half of florida's. well, we're looking at the system that moving 30 miles an hour now slow down so that also allows it to strengthen somewhat. it is moving at a northwest pace at 13 miles per hour. here's the very latest track. and by tonight we're looking at a threatening the keys. they're going to feel some tropical storm force winds there. some winds gusting as high as maybe 75 maybe 85 miles per ho

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow with us now. seeing some action out there. yes, seems like every day now we're talking about a new tropical storm in this one. this is just put itself together here now. so we're still early in the season, but. >> here we go. got things going on now. watch this storm begins to put itself together. you see it kind of wrapping around here just beginning to form a line of thunderstorms and now starting really get going this is l so this is now a tropical storm system. sustained winds of 45 miles per hour moving west northwest at 28 miles an hour. that is moving at a very, very rapid rate. you can martinique saint lucia also barbados grenada they're also under watches and for tropical storm force winds headed their way. the latest track. watch this passes right through straight to barbados, possibly near haiti and then right across cuba in. there you go. as we get into next week. maybe by next tuesday we could be talking about a tropical storm, maybe a hurricane knockwng on the door near florida by the beginning of next week. so w

let's check in with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow, because winds always an issue when you're talking about fires. yeah. this the most dangerous time of the day to have those winds, most fire started out there. so, yeah, the firefighters really doing an excellent job. put that fire out in a hurry could have done a lot more damage is wind now blowing 1520 miles per hour. >> in and around that fire. there is a mountainous area in and around that fire to and that affects all that, the wind that kind of whips around there, too. you see james donlon boulevard to bore a drive where the fire was located there and that dry brush. but those winds continue to blow out there. but the good news is the fire has been put out still that delta breeze is blowing around the bay area more than on the way. in fact, look at san francisco gusting to 34 miles per hour within this last hour or so. little bit blustery in spots right now. is that on shore flow continues skies clearing out a little bit more. there was a little more more northerly component to win today and we've got more clear skies out

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now. >> it's a hot day out there. we've got some winds sisk and this thing get out of control fast. yeah. in a dangerous location, too, because right in that area, there's a grassy area. but then. >> it's surrounded that you've got all these homes that are in and around that area. now the winds picking up in the afternoon. and here we go. grass fires breaking out. these are dangerous conditions. got winds blowing 16 to 18 miles per hour there in antioch. >> here's a closer look as we take in closer to that fire. in fact, we are seeing some of those winds kind of whipping around. you see the mountain regions in and around that area. so you see james boulevard right here. and here's tim board. drive up here in and around that. you can see all the different streets and the homes in that area. the kerwin pattern is such that is taking the fire toward those areas right now. we're going to see the winds continue to work their way up in this direction. so any of those homes anywhere in this area. certainly threaten in these

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here with details on forecast, lawrence. yeah, i think a lot of folks going to be flocking to the coastline over the next couple days as this heat wave really going to settle in now. >> and tomorrow likely going to be the hottest day of the weekend. but even sunday it's going to blazing. not. all right. let's go to half moon bay. this is a live cam right now. there's hardly anybody out there right now. just a few people. i bet this is going to be loaded by tomorrow. you're going to see a lot of folks headed out there trying to beat the heat around the bay area. these temperatures. >> really going to soar outside as you make your way into the santa clara valley. we've got advisories for the heat going up in the santa clara san jose. campbell also into los gatos and saratoga. we've got warnings up over the santa cruz mountains as those temperatures expected to stay very hot even at night. the overnight lows probably going to be the 60's, maybe even some upper 70's. there as you head toward boulder creek parts of the east bay.

. >> and chief meteorologist lawrence karnow, a launch. you've been tracking these just the fact that there's this many in this warm in a concentrated area is a little troubling. yeah. it's really we're on that boundary between the north american, the pacific plate. apparently there's been a little bit of a shift. and that's why we're seen numerous earthquakes out there. and of course, this all started this afternoon. you felt that shaking out there maybe felt a little dizzy knew about what was it. >> well, that was an earthquake. we had the first one. near farmington and that one coming in at 4.8 now that someone ditch thing because of the same time we were rocking and rolling up in the sierra nevada and it all happened within a minute of each other. so. the depth on that 1, 4.5 miles. and then we were really shaken up in the sierra nevada. look at that. i mean, it is really going up there right now. we saw the magnitude 5.9 south of topaz lake. and then we had a magnitude 4.8, 4 miles south southwest of lee vining. so all the way up and

let's send it over to chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. >> yeah. here we said we've got a long way to go. we've seen some of those fires popping up all over isil of a couple years now that have been extremely dry. not only here but all the western half of the u.s. but you can see in the north bay exceptional drought conditions. that is the highest degree. you're going to find a little further south extreme drought conditions all the way down in the santa clara valley san jose and further south and along the peninsula. but really this is not just a california issue. this is a western half of the united states problems. we've drought. that is really just set itself in could be a mega drought of more than 20 years. and we've seen some drops. if you go back the year 81200 during the medieval warm period. we saw some drops of a 100 and even 200 years long. that is incredible. all right. right now, though, we're expecting the temperatures to cool off a little bit. a little more of a sea breeze going shore breeze to bring down the temperatures at least in

chief meorologist lawrence karnow joins us now from the weather center. yes, certainly early to see these fires get g g ng. e saw that in early spring. here we are now seeing some of these very, very large fires. you expect maybe start to see about a month later. so but in these kind of drought conditions. anything can happen. and so here we go. we've got a long, hot summer ahead. and still plenty of time for these fires to burn. not going to be talking about rain probably until we getetet back into october. so right now you'veot exceptional drought conditions stretch across all of the north bay. much of the east bay extreme drought conditions all the way to the south bay alonthe peninsula as well. and that's what we're dealing with here. but it's not only here. it is alonthe entire western half of the u.s. we haven't seen anything like this. maybe says back to m800 maybe a 1000 years ago. so go so extreme drought conditions now we may have a long way to go. depending of this is a mega drought or not remains tototobe seen along the west we are seeing the

now to the latest on tropical storm conference chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. you're going to be miss all across the eastern seaboard. i mean, we're far from done with this storm system, even though this to become a tropical storm. it is still very, very powerful storm and capable of doing tremendous amount of damage. you see all the yellows all the way up to charleston that our tornado watches in effect right now. and you see these bands of rain just all parts of the carolinas right now. it's going continue to do that all the way up and down the eastern seaboard. still we're seeing some rain bands moving through some of these rain rates. nearly 3 inches an hour so flooding they're going to see that. there's no doubt about that flash flooding around those areas. many of those rivers going to be filling up as well. and then this is going to slowly make its way over the next couple of hours before picking up steam here to the northeast right now. sustained winds still of 45 miles per hour keeping a tropical storm strength. the tropical storm force winds extend ou

taylor chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now. lawrence, we felt it in the studio. did you feel? yeah, i felt it. actually, i thought either in passing out or to earthquake and then i realized well, that was an earthquake that just struck. but. >> it just kind of that rolling sensation everybody experiences a little bit differently. but that turned out to be a very strong quake originally the center is saying a 5, 9, it's been upgraded to a 6 very strong quake like that felt in the bay area would do some significant damage. you saw those rocks, those huge boulders coming down on the highway. also, it was interesting at the same part time we saw some movement all along a fault zone and we had another earthquake a 4.8 4 miles south southwest of lee vining so a very active a day in the sierra nevada and toward nevada as well. but we've got a couple things going on. this used to be the fair lawn played its abducted underneath the north american plate to create what's known as the sierra nevada. now, we've got replaced by the pacific plate and the north american plate. t

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow standing by. lawrence, you've been talking about this. so what's the likelihood will face it. yes, certainly a possibility. it doesn't look like in the events like last year. that sparked all those terrible fires that we had that. >> that took place. we actually had a tropical storm kind of fall apart and give a lot of moisture up and feed the monsoon. but as they're still going to be a lot of moisture rolling on through. looks like as we head toward at least the latter part of the weekend that we have start to be concerned as we get into sunday and then again on monday and then maybe again later in the week, i'll show you that more in just a moment. next couple of days just about the low clouds and the fog as we get into the weekend on saturday. but even that a little less cloud cover. but all of a sudden the monsoon starts to build back in that ridge of high pressure over the 4 corner states start to build back toward the bay area just a little bit throws that moisture and there it is right there. pulling right back up across the state

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here now with a look at the forecast. yeah, guys. those are called pyrocumulonimbus clouds that can generate that activity. >> and really making extreme fire conditions even worse as those thunderstorms collapse and boy, all that energy coming toward the surface. yeah, they might get a little rain out of that. you've got those gusty winds may be over 60 miles an hour and that can really amplify those fires today we're looking at the dixie fire right now. look at all the smoke just streaming to the northeast through susan bill. maybe you're up there fishing in the lake there north susanville. you're seeing all that smoke right above the and they've got fires burning elsewhere to. we've got the henry fire that is bringing some of that smoke just north of topaz lake and streaming toward the north, probably carson city seeing some of that smoke in nevada more that continue to stream northward as well. and those are the only ones fires burning really along the western half of the u.s. we've got one up in oregon as well. that's the lake fi

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here. time with more on the smoky conditions that we're actually not seeing here at home. yeah. fortunate for us. the air generally travels from west to east. now. >> you get some pressure systems that will vary somewhat in the whole mix. but we've got these fires burning now and that's an issue. of course, you may remember the paradise fire we had that all that smoke with the offshore wind came right back in the bay area. so we've got the beckworth fired. the we've got the bootleg fire. we've got the quincy fire. they're all burning at the same time right now. you see the smoke trail kind of trailing off to the northeast right now. watch as we put this into motion just a little bit. this is a computer model showing you the expected track of that smoke. and you'll notice it rolls over the top of this ridge of high pressure almost all the way up in the can. the first as a ridge is very strong and then as all that smoke starts to mix in some of the upper circulation pattern here of the atmosp

let's check in with the chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. lawrence get that fog in the thinking certain that will slow things down. but hey, you know what, checking around, you get away forecast. we are going to see some changes coming our way as low clouds and fog and a factor not only here but other parts of the state had the monterey bay. you're going to find some of that fog tomorrow morning. maybe a little drizzle in the santa cruz, 60 degrees. there. 61. >> in carmel. how about 70 degrees in carmel valley. so warm, as you move away from the coastline. southern california 74 degrees in long beach, 73 in san diego. hot 91 in pasadena in the 81 downtown los angeles, the high country. you got to watch out. we've seen a series of thunderstorms erupting across the sierra nevada last few days. i think that's going to continue low pressure 10 acre just to the east that is going to pump in more moisture and give the instability see more of those rising thunderstorms in the afternoon, especially between about 3, about 7.30 or so watch out for th

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now. lawrence, with these heat waves. it's no wonder the coast is popular. yeah. it's definitely the place to be. if you want to beat the heat and all that fog settling. in fact, there was no he waved at all near the coastline highs. there are only in the 50's and the 60's. but in the valleys. yeah, 40 plus degrees warmer over the weekend. now everybody start to see some cooling, but it's going to take awhile for us all the cool down all that fog moved in along the california coastline. >> high pressure starting to retreat just a little bit back toward the 4 corners still be hot in the valleys 108 degrees in barstow tomorrow 106 in bakersfield, a 104. >> in reading your back in the 80's in the sacramento. that's because that nice breeze to work its way right through the delta i hope to cool the temperatures down. >> so take a few days for but it really cool down after that. he way. so that being said, temperatures today they were a lot cooler. fact cool in the average 57 degrees in san francisco with the fog 64 at oakland

what are we looking at here at sfo, chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here, lawrence. fortunately, the smoke and the fires have. >> not affected us directly here in the bay. you fear that it's just a matter of time, right. yeah. and we still so far to go in a fire season. we haven't even reached the heart of and yet not getting there until we get into september in october. but the fires already popping up now been tracking that and all that smoke and you can see the stream of smoke and that's moving to the northeast right now through susan bill, that coming from the dixie fire there. there's another one little for the south is actually called the henry fire that is producing some of that smoke just north of topaz lake. boy. it's all headed in. >> to nevada, into idaho. those areas are getting plenty of that smoke filling their skies. you can see in oregon to this one of the bigger fires continue to burn and all that smoke is headed to the northeast making its way into parts of idaho. and until they put these fires out really nothing really to stop it. but we may not be

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow has the details yet. but these fires really getting going early this season. of not only we in a drought here in california. the western half the united states under drought conditions and many of those extreme as well. now, this latest forecast on our smoke tractor. you can see susan bill near the buckwheat fire and you can expect to see some of that smoke that westerly wind continuing to make its way in an location as we head toward tomorrow afternoon headed toward lovelock pyramid lake. a cup that all disperses in that direction and continue to travel with this, not the only fire. you see a much larger view. all the fires burning for morgan. you see all of idaho almost covered in smoke by tomorrow afternoon. all right. around the bay area. yeah, things are looking good here. no spoke to speak of. we got that fog out there 50's and 60's along the coastline. little drizzle up toward the beaches to little warmer inside the bay. but i think the next couple of days. >> notice some changes tomorrow. probably

let's talk to chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. yeah. kind of settled into this pattern. now we've got this big dome of high pressure. >> over the 4 corners of the rotation around that ridge bringing winds up from the and that's smoke to the north around much of that area and that's exactly what we're seeing today. you'll watch as those clouds. there they go. racing up in the south and the moving to the north. unfortunately, more lightning strikes popping up over the sierra nevada but that monsoon along the california coastline. look at that. you have the fog and on shore breeze out of the west moving along the coast. so kind of the few things going on here. a storm clouds rolling up over the sierra nevada. some flash flood warnings were going up in total. county early on. and also as you can see, those showers rolling on through near the tamarack fire. also couple lightning strikes up there as well. little further to the north in and around the quincy fire. you start out with the smoke early on. then all of a sudden you start to the month clouds beginning to roll on by t

the sun anywhere chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here tonight with a look at what's on tap for the start of your thursday. yeah. good sight to see more of that fog on the way. jonathan, it is going to be. >> thick out there as well. of course. and we have that much in the way of precipitation. we have had some drizzle we've had 1 one 100th of an inch of drizzle along the coastline from some of that fog for the year, though. this is the end of the rain year. the national weather service doesn't from july. 1st all the way to june 30th every year. and here we set the we are on the 3rd driest year since 1849 with our records being kept here. only 8. i'm not even quite 9 inches of rain in san francisco. that is only 39% of normal for the season. only 5 inches of rain there in san jose that 37% of normal oakland just over 7 and a half inches of rain. that's 41% are normal and look at santa rosa 33 inches, they usually get plus they only had just over 12 inches of rain this year. that's 38% of normal. that's what it's been all around. the state and all across the sierra nevada are a lot o

some 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow choices set with a look at what to expect yeah. guys that fog is racing back on shore here. florida's get ready. >> for a tropical storm that could be a major tropical storm. that's approaching that area. looks like it's going to strengthen a bit right now it has been a running over some land. masses are right now. it's moving over cuba as we speak. and that kind of interferes with the circulation of the storm system. so coming on shore as a tropical storm right now. you can see the mass just kind it to kind of ramp up energy so you're looking at a north path at 12 miles per hour. that is moving much more slowly than it was just a few days ago, not too far away. now we're going to see it moving across the keys as early as tonight. we're going to see those tropical storm force winds, maybe some gusts of 80 plus miles per hour across some of the keys as well. and then here's the very latest track. and this is getting close to the tampa area as we head 8 o'clock tomorrow eastern time and they're looking at winds sustained their of 65

. >> chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here tonight with a look at whao's on the way for the start of your tuesday and also tracking the latest on these wildfires. yeah, the bay area really spared from most a lightning strikes as the monsoonal moisture came in a little bit late after the heating from the sun is so just couldn't generate enough to bring us many in the way of thunderstorms. but that's not the case over the sierra nevada. look at all the numerous lightning strikes. dozens upon dozens of strikes up over the sierra making their way in the nevada as well. of course, of we've got the fires burning already. you can see that fire right near quincy and they actually had some pyrocumulonimbus clouds develop there. that's because the heat from the fire is giving lift to some of that moisture from the monsoon in the atmosphere and all of a sudden you get those huge cumulonimbus clouds developing that could be dangerous to get strong. gusty winds. but neat that you see some downdraft. and of course you see a couple more lightning strikes which can further spark more fires up the

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us with a look at what to expect this weekend. yeah. get ready. now we're getting close. look like that fog roll back in right now and it's getting thick in spots. that's one thing you want to watch out for traveling near the coastline tonight into early tomorrow morning, watching out for some dense fog and then inside the bay are ok in the valleys probably the stay clear, the place like concord pleasanton and livermore overnight tonight dublin to see nice stars throughout the night, but not the san francisco. you're all fogged in right now. as you can see, the transamerica building as of august stretched back on shore. more. that overnight tonight, maybe a little drizzle along the coastline. thunderstorms firing up over the sierra nevada. again, it was really going this afternoon. this is all part of the monsoon as a rolled on through the high country. if you're headed up there tomorrow, the where you're likely to see another round of thunderstorms coming in, especially in the afternoon. look for the possibility of some flash flooding

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joining us now with some of the answers. yeah. i think that fog is going to be tricky, especially in the san francisco along the coastline. you're looking at some very thick fog which are well inland and you'll mostly clear skies throughout the holiday evening and that should be just perfect for those fireworks. but if things are getting active in the tropics. and that's what we see. we've got our first named hurricane of the season. this also that's been spinning around comes right across barbados there goes kind of a losing some of solidification there as it moves on through. but now it's going to put itself back together again. >> and here we go. this is our storm system. just weak hurricane so far 80 mile hour sustained winds. but it is moving very, very rapidly west northwesterly at 29 miles per hour. watch the very latest track. here. it is going to take it right near the dominican republic that stays just offshore. and over open waters, it will be able to maintain its strength if it starts to intermingle some land mass ther

want to check in with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. >> yeah, guys. the good news is we didn't have as many to fund or storms rolling over the sierra nevada today. but still very hot temperatures and many of those places. so we'll see the hot temperatures get return for tomorrow. so difficult to for firefighters up there fighting those fires, but maybe a little break from all those thunderstorms, maybe more. the thunderstorm activity located more in the central and southern sierra nevada said of the north fog low clouds, rotating in along the coastline right now. look up toward quote, our right now looking beautiful out there. but the fog looking a little thick outside as it can as we get into late july and august gets compressed right down near the surface. watch out for some dense fog along the coastline overnight tonight right through the golden gate bridge. all right. these storms rolling on by see a couple those lightning strikes up there and some of that off the coastline. but for the most part, that monsoon kind of just sweeping on by leaves be

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us with the 4th of july forecast, lawrence. yeah, it looks like that fog is really sticking around through the whole day. in fact, it's already moving on shore right now. and i don't see a way to really get off that offshore wind. so. >> here we go. your official 4th of july forecast. it looks like that fog will already be creeping back in the bay right around fireworks times. it will come to san francisco expected to be nice and clear. you're likely to see a lot of clouds coming in about 700 to 800 feet. so that may interfere with some of the fireworks displays. it will stay clear inland, especially the early part of the evening hours and for the fireworks display. so, you know, these bay hill should be looking nice. temperatures going to be the 50's and the 60's. but boy, that fog really moving on shore right now. we've seen reports of drizzle already along the coastline. we'll see more of that overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning, temperatures around the bay area. now has 56 degrees and cloudy skies and san francisco

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow with us now. laurent says so much smoke in tahoe talking to people who were there this weekend really didn't go outside. yeah. you got to feel for that. you know, people going up there trying to enjoy their vacation. but all that smoke out there and we've been spared basically here in the bay area much of any of that smoke just because the wind pattern. >> has not changed. we've had more of a westerly component a wind that pushes that smoke all the way away from our area and 3rd, unfortunately for people in tahoe, for people in nevada, all the way across the eastern parts of the u.s. they are seen a lot of that smoke. now today thunderstorms starting to pop up again and that's a concern, although they did come with some rain up there of the concern is that there may be more of those lightning strikes. we get the strikes starting some more spot fires out there. you see the thunderstorms erupting in pushing through near that whole area again and even further south. so things very active there right
