i live in frederick county maryland and i am a member of the national federation of the blind. i am the wife, mother and aspiring author of historical fiction. i am now going death and blind from a condition. eight years ago i lost my ability to read print and two years ago i lost my ability to read the computer screen. as a lover of the written word, it's been excruciating but i have a lot to adjust to so i started the learning process of braille two years ago, actually a year and a half ago. this comes to me through the u.s. postal service has a free matter for the blind. the delays that have been experienced through this isn't the same as what i am receiving in my regular mail and these prolonged delays have impacted my ability to learn braille. had these not happened i would most likely be able to read my statement to you today, but i can't so i'm going to ask a fellow member of the national federation of the blind to read my statement aloud on my behalf. >> thank you. as an aspiring author, the intake of knowledge and literature is important and as a new braille learner, g
