look at the sierra nevada yesterday. it was thunderstorm. lightning strike after lightning strike. there were hundreds of lightning strikes in the sierra also ups fire danger for sea air vent, nevada neighbors. so we're going to be taking a look at that the next couple of days fire crews are going to be moderating since monitoring seeing if they see the smoke rising from those slopes up there. another chance of thunderstorms with us here today. but as this high pressure retreats, it takes with it any thunderstorm potential. so the bay area's not going to be seeing that. we do see a resurgence of a bit of fog this morning, not the fog. yes, of mornings but a little bit more than yesterday. 60's for your daytime highs in san francisco and 50's and 60's right along the coastline today. we'll be looking at daytime highs in the 60's and 70's for most of our bayshore cities. a few 80's mixed in there, especially for the south bay. we'll find san jose right at 80 degrees in the meantime, santa clara milpitas in sunnyvale cooler than yesterday. more tapping into the ocean and that's a litt

that's going to kick back some more thunderstorms across the sierra nevada. well, we've got that cool fog. now that is moving along the coastline more that all the way. we're going to see plenty of fog. you see even 7 northwest are seeing the fog creep on shore in a place like portland that had those blistering hot record temperatures sierra nevada continue to see thunderstorms there. and again, if you head up there this weekend. be prepared likely going to see plenty of thunderstorms up there as well. but tonight it's all about the fog again in the bay area that fog is going to surge well inland into the valleys. maybe all the way to the central valley overnight tonight and then slowly break way toward the coastline. but leaving behind a whole lot of moisture. fact. watch. this is a preset model showing the amount of precipitation we make. have this one's forecasting almost a 10th of an inch of precipitation. the form of drizzle along the coastline. but even a few 100 says you make yourself around the rest, the bay area, too. so looks like a damp night ahead

and we were spared most of that activity here in the bay area but not the sierra nevada. so the possibility of more fires starting from a lightning strikes a real possibility. and to our north, they haven't seen all the lightning activity there, but they've seen some of the monsoonal clouds push through near the bootleg fire. but for the most part, things have remained fairly calm. there, right now. you can still see some showers popping up over the sierra nevada also into that area as well. the bay area not seeing much in that activity, although we've got one monsoonal moisture about to make its way toward fort bragg right now. most of that looks like it will continue to track in that direction. but we're going to see most that head on by without much trouble here as far as the monsoon is concern for the bay area. mostly energy now going to start to slide a little bit further the east, but we're not double. we've got a long way to go in the season. you'll see this into august and september for the rains come back. in fact, the models start to pick up on some of that mons

they've seen some of the monsoon up in the sierra nevada today. but it's moved enough to the east that's allowing for that on shore flow to really kind of deep in the marina. and we've got a trough that's kind of carbon itself out along the west coast. so temperatures coming back down. in fact, much more reasonable in to sacramento tomorrow. they're looking at a high about 83 degrees 87 in modesto instead of triple digits still hot but 99 into bakersfield. one. '03, unusual in barstow. so temperatures cooling down around the state as that ridge of high pressure is move a little further to the east. the fog is flowing again making its way on shore in you see that making its way over the mountain tops there. more on the way tonight. temperature wise of the number still running a little bit below the average in the san francisco 6370 in oakland for a high today, 80 in san jose 80 right at the average in livermore 82 degrees in concord and 76 degrees in santa rosa. more fog out there more the monsoon continuing up over the sierra nevada and we'll see

but look at what happened yesterday up in the sierra nevada as well as the southern central valley. we saw afternoon showers and thunderstorms popping up in a lot of that convective moisture is trying to make its way our direction. what we're not seeing yet is any sign of any thunderstorm activity anywhere close to the bay area. but come late afternoon, especially if this monsoonal moisture does build enough during the heat of the afternoon. we could see an isolated thunderstorm or 2 building. and that is the concern. there as we do work our way into the hotte t afternoon that we do have ahead of us. if we do see some thunderstorm activity building lot of times at this time of year. you'll have a very dry layer closer to the surface of the rain won't make it to the surface. but you do have that chance of a lightning strike actually making its way down and that could result in the high fire danger. all this is due to the high pressure ridge that's pushing this monsoon moisture our direction still fog at the coast and then those clouds building come the afternoon for some of our in ea

this was yesterday afternoon up in the sierra nevada. active rain and thunderstorms all over again. while the bay area was just looking at some fog during early morning hours, especially. so it's quite the active day for sierra neighbors. more of that thunderstorm activity. does been heightened fire danger, but at least it has been coming along with solid doses of rainfall today. again, like we've been saying, we will see that cool onshore breeze that picks up towards the afternoon. not as windy as yesterday was your daytime highs today. back into the 60's for san francisco as well as right along the coastline there will be some clearing this afternoon for the coast, but it will be brief 60's and 70's from brisbane to burlingame and it will be 70's pretty solidly from san carlos and detail barely hit the low 80's for redwood city with site in palo alto, low 80's as well for san jose santa clara milpitas sunnyvale at 79 today. fremont's on up through hayward as well as further north into oakland, all in the 70's concord. you're back to 86 today and only to 90's on the map. that's ant

the monsoon again, look at all the lightning again, just erupting over the sierra nevada. now we have had some rain drops to go along with that. of course, that cuts down the chance of some of those fires. and you see all the lightning strikes kind of rolling on through near the tamarack fire somewhat of a concern. now as we've had so much rain in around the tamarack fire zone. the burn area. what we could see some flash flooding, maybe some debris flows in and around that because of all that debris left over from some of those fire. so. that's concerned. they're not as much so toward the quincy area, although they're seeing some scattered showers in that direction. the smoke has been kind of an issue today. the winds have not been all that strong. and so that smoke is kind of settle down in and around quincy in that area near chester. you see the winds fairly light out of the southwest right now at 5 miles an hour early on. they're actually out of the east. and so some of that smoke in the forecast wants to start to filter back into the central valley. so you headed up by

we've seen a series of thunderstorms erupting across the sierra nevada last few days. i think that's going to continue low pressure 10 acre just to the east that is going to pump in more moisture and give the instability see more of those rising thunderstorms in the afternoon, especially between about 3, about 7.30 or so watch out for that. you can see those big cumulonimbus clouds a roll over the top of the sierra nevada and cause some storms there as well. the meantime, though, the temperatures are going to be fairly nice 80's in the south like call 87 in truckee getting hot reno at 95. we are anything but hot around the bay area. we've got that nice cool fog sneak its way through the golden gate bridge right now that is going to keep these temperatures running below the average, which is a good thing. i think as we head into the holiday weekend as we'll see more of that fog is temperatures going to dip a little bit more tomorrow. some 80's inland 70's around the bay plan on some 60's along the coastline next few days taking the right in the holiday. i think we'll se

remember yesterday we had the big blow up of all those thunderstorms that monsoon over the sierra nevada. dozens upon dozens of lightning strikes. well, much quieter up there today, just a couple lightning strikes other than that fairly quiet across the sierra nevada locally. that sea breeze continues to blow that breeze will carry the low clouds and fog. well on shore overnight tonight and into the bay and some of the valleys as low clouds and fog may be a couple patches of drizzle, not going to be as much tonight. then morning clouds then afternoon clearing tomorrow. it will be breezy along the coastline through some of the mountain gaps and cool to the middle of this week. they're going warm up as we head in toward the weekend. maybe some monsoonal clouds roll in by sunday looks like the air quality looking fantastic outside all around with a nice fresh ocean air that sea breeze continuing to blow temperatures tomorrow are going to be comfortable putting some 80's inland 70's around the bay and 1560's co side with some patchy fog temperatures cooling off through thursday. then a few m
