tony, your take on mike's trade on lowe's? >> yeah, so if you look at consumer spending in the hom improvement category we've seen a deceleration bu it remains elevated. i expect home depot and lowe's to put up strong numbers here next week. as mike said lowe's is trading at a pretty reasonable valuation, about 17 times next year's earnings and they are doing better as an operator, they're doing better in terms of online digital sales in terms of margin expansion but the one thing you cannot get away from, which is what carter showed you, is the underperformance of the stock relative to the market, relative to the sector, and relative to its peer group here in home depot. for those reasons i do like this trade that mike is taking, which is limiting his risk to just about 3.3% of the stock's value to take a bearish bet using a put debit spread the one thing i will add is because our expectation on this particular trade is a fairly short holding period, you can just think about buying the outright october 190 puts without sellin

. >> yeah, look at that chart there, okay, so mike, i mean, it really hasn't done a whole lot in about a year's time how, if at all, are you trading lows right now >> yeah, so, you know, it's interesting, we're talking about the price action on the stock versus the fundamentals of the stock. on the fundamentals side they've done quite lot, actually if you take a look at full year eps for fiscal year 2019, we were looking at a company that was making about $5.76 a share full year 2020 last year, during the pandemic, they grew that eps by approximately 60% and right now the street's expecting full-year aps to grow this year and next year as well right now, it's trading round about 18 times forward earnings, maybe slightly under it's trading at a discount to the market that said, one of the things carter pointed to was the fact it's underperforming the home builders that's interesting because part of what propelled these companies to the heights we saw is the fact there were a lot more people doing home improvements and lowe's, this is more true than home depot. home dee poet gets 40% of

but mike khouw said beware, there are three risks rising risks that could derail the record run mike, kick us off. >> yeah, so i mean obviously here we are at all-time highs. i think it's pretty clear that one of the reasons that we are at all-time highs is because o powell's comments that a lot of people were trying to digest today. those seemed fairly dovish but i think it's important for investors to remember that, of course,'s he not going to sort of lay shocks on the market. we have a big fomc meeting coming in up in september. we are essentially getting prepared for tapering. but of course the tapering, this is a really significant issue. because the fed has been purchasing about $120 billion worth of bonds every single month. about $80 billion worth of treasuries and $40 billion worth of mortgage securities now the degree of that tapering, if inflation risks persist, is definitely a headline risk for the market we saw that in the last taper tantrum in 2018. and another risk i think is certainly that we are going to be passing labor day that may not seem like a really seminole e

minor tweak there on mike's trade. interesting stuff. all right. switch gears a bit stay with tony he thinks all's well that ends well at wells fargo. explain that, tony wells fargo, for years kind of a disaster. >> yeah. that's exactly right, but they turned things around this year we saw a lot of strength from financials earlier today on the jobs report. i simply think there's further upside going from here look at the chart of wells fargo first, you see today we broke out here after spending about the last two months in a range between 42 and 47, and more importantly, not only did we break out from the range on an absolute basis, also we broke out on a relative basis to financials a strong setup for the current breakout i think it's constructive for a continuation higher if you look at business itself, wells fargo has turned around. stroll relative performance to its sector shows its outperformed xlf throughout the year seen recent out performance here today and recently raised dividends. i think they're well positioned to return more capital ba

to action mike, i don't know if the pun gives it away. what are you watching? >> yeah, we're taking a look at 5d advanced auto parts, ticker symbol aap this is obviously a provider of replacement auto parts now there are of course a lot of businesses that people are likely familiar with that do this, including auto zone and o'reilly's auto parts. there's a distinction i would like to make before we get to that, let's talk a little bit about the setup going into earnings. one of the things we are observing right now is that options premium on advanced auto parts are slightly elevated. i will also say that i am pretty bullish on this particular name in the space and one of the reasons for that is that as we've seen massive margin expansion across the market, we haven't seen it as much here. it's actually trading right about its three-year average in terms of multiples even as the s&p has expanded materially and i would contrast that with the fact that earnings growth is forecast to be quite strong. full year 2022 eps of about 12.5 bucks is

mike, show us. >> yes, so we are taking a look at alibaba here. obviously what has been pressuring this company all of the chinese companies really is probably familiar to most bureaus, we should go over it one more time to be sure we are talking about china's security and regulatory scrutiny a lot of these companies bidding them on taking on users and the possibility of antitrust penalties and something that's brought into the rise and we have potential further restrictions that we could see in addition to those financial penalties. in the case of alibaba, they have been investing and trying to grow their user base and one of the downside of that is you could see ibita or eps decline a little bit year on year. those are some of the risks we face when we look at alibaba, this is a company of 40% margins that's obviously tremendous. we have high anticipated revenue and eps growth of 29%-ish, year on year on the top line and more on the bottom line and certainly for a company that's growing as quickly as this one is , is remarkably cheap. this is wi

mike khouw, do you agree how do you trade this? >> yeah, so it's being a lot of people will say that the minors are levered way to play gold and we might ask ourselves with all of the talk about inflation, you know, why it is that gold and the gold miners have done so poorly of late and i think a lot of people are probably looking toward the september fomc meeting, among other things and of course if the fed does turn more hawkish at that time, that would explain one of the reasons why we've seen strength in the dollar lately, why we've seen weakness in gold and in the gold miners. but to carter's point, there are some long-term lows that are being put on in the miners and it's not just price we're talking about. we're talking about evaluation too. looking at the price of ebitda which is a back of the napkin measure, we're at 10-year lows it's only gotten down to this level of six times two prior times in the last ten years. on a price to earnings basis, it's trading around 14 times earnings and of course the gold miners index and
