i was an early spacex employee. i was also a virgin employee that helped launch the rocket you showed earlier in the video. i also worked at blue origin. there was a lot of movement in second-generation companies. people are finding roles where they stepped up within different companies. we all feel we are part of a larger new space movement. it is not about one company. we will see movement between the companies, the people who have that mindset. emily: you worked out blue origin, spacex and virgin galactic before starting firefly. i would love to know, how would you compare them as places to work, given there is such competition for talent? tom: they all have their own unique bent. it has to do with leadership of different companies. they may have a different vision then jeff bezos or richard branson. there is a different vision for each of those companies. firefly is setting out to build a company that is impactful and transformative as spacex was. that is what i have tried to do in firefly. we have made a lot of

the main reason they are so far ahead is because of spacex. spacex gives them a really competitive advantage in terms of getting the satellites up into space using these fully depreciated assets, these reusable rockets that have been paid for by other missions. the technology that they are using is really quite remarkable. the satellites are flat packed, they have industrialised their manufacturing. they have added value to the whole journey to make this very viable. these satellites can only stay in space for four—five years before being brought into the atmosphere to burn up again. so they have pioneered a whole load of technology in terms of the way they did this with tesla. there are a dozen or so other projects at the moment, ranging from one with the european union that is yet to launch, a uk—based one which has launched 200 satellites, but they have some financial difficulties. then, there is amazon, which could be promising but it is also early stages, no launches yet, and so by a long shot, starlink is the furthest ahead, having l

emily: are we accounting for tesla and spacex in these numbers? >> this is just tesla. emily: how much of it is actual salary and how much is just because tesla stock has gone up? anders: he gets paid only in stock options that grow in share if the price goes up. so this package has become worth quite a bit of money. it is largely the case for most of the executives we see on the bloomberg pay index, really hefty and chunky equity awards that just skyrocketed last year as equity markets scored. salary is a small part of this, even though the figures are not negligible to a normal person. but for these guys, it's a different magnitude. emily: and they are all guys, no women in the top 10, as you see there, which is a shame. do investors approve? anders: investors largely think this is ok. some are a bit uncomfortable with big numbers, but generally the line that investors stick to is, if there's a lot of performance, it's ok if there is a lot of pay. tesla just kind of drew that to the extreme a few years ago and said, what if we pay this guy $50 million if the share pri
