the oakland and piedmont school districts have now passed vaccine mandates for any student 12 and older but there are some big differences between the school districts. eligible students in piedmont have until november 17th to be fully vaccinated or provide a medical exception. students who are not vaccinated by then will have to attend classes virtually so they can't come on the campus. in oakland it is a different story. not so rigid. there is no set deadline yet but the district hopes the eligible students will use their winter break to get vaccinated by the time they come back for january classes. oakland families will also be allowed to apply for a personal belief exemption. >> it definitely will give people i think an out because i think it is a pretty broad exemption. >> it won't take effect immediately. at the moment there are no parameters set as to what it is going to look like, how it is going to be in effect, enforced. >> a lot to be worked out in oakland so far. the oakland unified district will host two virtual community meetings next week to answer a lot of the questions

the piedmont school district was expected to decide this evening whether to ask students to show proof of vaccination. no word yet on that vote, the berkeley unified school district discussed the vaccine mandate at its meeting. a decision was not though expected tonight. more than 90% of eligible residents in two bay area counties are now fully vaccinated against covid-19 in marin county, more than 97% have received at least one shot. and in san mateo county, nearly 94% we spoke with a grocery store owner in daly city. he tells us they require their employees to be vaccinated, and they are encouraging their customers to do the same. when you see you know your friends, your family trusted people in your community who have all been vaccinated. it kind of builds a sense of safety supervisors in san mateo county say they expect to have a 100% vaccination rate in the next couple of months. well flies, there is another step closer to being allowed to offer booster shots of its covid vaccine. today at the fda signed off on administering booster shots to people over 65 those at high risk from
