and then looking at our demographics here in south dakota. we have an older population where one of the states that has more people in that age group than many others. and we also knew that we had people that had health conditions that would make them at greater risk. so we started early on educating them about the virus, what actions they could take long before there was even a vaccine that they could make the decision to try to stay home, that we would get them the essentials they would need. they needed to wash their hands, be careful, stay healthy, get exercise. take vitamins and supplements that would build their immunity. and then as the vaccines came out we started giving them information on what we knew could help protect their health and keep them from getting very ill that would end up in a hospitalization or even death. and i think that proactive approach to the education piece, we didn't use a bully pulpit. we didn't go out there and mandate it. we worked with them and wanted them to feel very comfortable with the information they
