dan lieberman, abc news. reggie: as if schools did not have enough to deal with right now, one south bay district is scrambling to put teachers in front of students because they have a sub shortage. amy hollyfield is here with the classroom crunch we are seeing in san jose. officials say they have lost about half of their substitute teachers. they usually can rely on having about 200 subs to call each day. now they are down to 100. with fewer people now willing to come to the classroom to teach, the unified school district is having to turn to other personnel, like counselors. counselors say this means they are giving kids in need less attention. administrators say this is not ideal, but they need everyone's help in this situation. >> ima full-time counselor. now i am an 80% counselor, 20% on-call stuff to do teacher. >> normally we count on 200 people a day to be able to 70 classroom. this will your -- sub in a classroom. this year, it is 100. people are not coming back in the same numbers yet. amy: counselo

this is abc 7 news. liz: good morning, everybody. you are watching abc. we are going to start with a look at the weather. let's get back over to lisa arjun. lisa: we are tracking a light system today. first, the clouds offshore will be increasing. then the cold front visits the north bay first at 4:00 this afternoon. he was a look at the current numbers. it is clear in campbell. 47 in mountain view. this is a level 1 system. it arrives this afternoon and throughout the early evening hours. under a 10th of an inch of rain. some very breezy conditions. by 10:00 we are in the 50's. my 4:00 you can see it is raining in cloverdale. we are in the mid 60's elsewhere. at 5:00 we have showers on the peninsula. as we get to 6:00 over into the east bay, a few light showers. most of the activity along the coast. we will talk about several waves of rain in a few minutes. liz: covid-19 cases are down, but millions of americans remain unvaccinated. numerous cities and employers have issued vaccine mandates, but many people are still resisting the requirement. christine

this is abc 7 news. kristen: vaccine advisors to the centers for disease control voted today to recommend booster doses of both the moderna and johnson & johnson vaccines. it is important to community members broadly agreed that people who got the j&j vaccine need a second vaccination, saying it is less effective than the moderna and pfizer. covid cases are spiking in the u.k., where there are new restrictions, hitting a new three month-high. countries in western europe especially russia, are also battling infections as well. the cdc says far more people are getting booster shots each day than those receiving first shots of the vaccine. even so, officials are word that the number of people getting booster shots is below expectations. reporter tim johns has the concerns. tim: pfizer booster shots are currently available for anyone 65 and older as well as those with underlying conditions, but officials in santa clara county say there booster rollout is off to a slow start. >> we haven't seen as many as we
