chris christie was his own guy. >> neil: no, you're right. he was an anomaly. a real quick take on how important these two contests are to teeing up the mid-terms. do they have that effect or do we make a bigger deal of it in the moment? >> we will make a bigger deal of it except that it is the greatest indicator if virginia goes republican, you can -- you can't bet on it, but that is a great indication of what will happen in the house races. virginia is three different states. washington d.c., it's richmond and it's south carolina. if the republicans get a majority there, it says that republicans can win nationwide. by the way, it's going to be a wake-up call for democrats that their spending is too much. tax increases are too much. the programs are too much. even though it's not been an issue in virginia, there's a sense that people are fed up with government, they're fed up with washington, they're fed up with rich men, fed up with their own government and they want elected officials that listen to them for a change. that's why this election is so important.

for example, chris christie. christine todd whitman and thomas kaine. they were all reelected in very heavily blue state. bears watching. tom bevin, "real clear politics," cofounder there. tom, amazing in this bluest of blue states, democrats have a devil of a time getting reelected governor. what do you make of that? >> yeah. i mean new jersey is one of those states like massachusetts and others which is very, very blue but doesn't have a problem electing republicans at the governor level but this is you know, murphy is running for re-election and his approval ratings remain pretty high. this is a state again that biden won by 16 points just a year ago. virginia was 10 points, a little closer down there and murphy is, again, terry mcauliffe isn't the incumbent there. sort of the defacto incumbent but murphy is running this race, i think biden is, his agenda is drag. why you're seeing this race become a lot closer than we would have normally expected. you mentioned emerson poll with 6 points. a monmouth poll came out early this morning has it at 11. and

thank you, chris. earlier i spoke to steve granite from abbey logistics group who told me the shortages issues in recruiting staff will go beyond christmas it is definitely going to go beyond christmas. even if we had 100,000 drivers knock on the door and say i want to become a hgv driver, it would take government over 12 months just to get them through the tests, at best. they need to increase testing capacity extremely quickly and use the ministry of defence and private sector, and look at putting hgv drivers on the skilled worklist. another area where labour shortages are causing major issues is in the agricultural sector with some farmers having to pay labourers up to £30 an hour to pick vegetables. jack ward is from the british growers�* association, he told us the situation is unsustainable. the combination of escalating labour costs, increased haulage costs, packaging costs. all of these things is making the job unsustainable. and what we are going to see is an erosion of our ability to feed
