oklahoma is moving forward with resuming executions. in fact, today a federal judge cleared the way for execution of death row inmates to resume. it's a controversial capital punishment system we have in the united states, specifically quite cruel in oklahoma where you see the lethal injections resume which are said to burn men alive. oklahoma is actually one of 27 states in america which still use the death penalty. it did pause the practice for six years after major problems and blatant errors were exposed. there are many issues here with law and policy and fact-finding. but since the death penalty is ultimately about the government taking a life, we begin this report tonight with one of the lives in question. this is julius jones. he was once attending university of oklahoma on an academic scholarship. he was once a 19-year-old who seemed to be on a decent path. at 19 he had no convictions at the time for any violence. he seemed to be putting some of his past convictions for petty theft behind him. he was arrested, tried before a nea

where i grew up canadian county which is west of oklahoma city, slightly northwest of oklahoma city and the county seat is lb now, this is the land of the planes people, the land where i grew up had been taken away from the southern cheyenne nation. they are still there, but with-- the land was allotted in the late 19th century so they have only very small travel headquarters, but the comanches, southern cheyenne are the people in the area i grew up. i never even went to tulsa or osage country or even knew it existed when i was growing up. it's very provincial in oklahoma by sections of the state, central southeast, southwest, you know northeast and people don't get much out of their counties much less to you know several counties away, so i went to tulsa for the first time only since i moved to california. i finally visited tulsa seemed like beautiful cities and oklahoma city much more eastern kind of city that was settled by a lot of the entre nous are from the east so it's a very different place than where i grew up it was more southern, southern baptist and more like the south,

the concern was the texas/oklahoma game was yesterday. you have a lot of people traveling up towards oklahoma city right through the target point from where we're talking about severe weather. it's not just those areas. this entire location right here including little rock, shreveport, even austin looking at very large hail, the potential for tornadoes and even damaging winds. the greatest tornado threat is really going to be in these yellow and red areas you see here that includes that i-35 corridor that you see right there. again, we're expecting a lot of traffic later on today. now the timing for a lot of these is going to be in the afternoon and evening hours. you have a lot of those warm temperatures that will be peaking during that time as well. these highs are 15 to 20 degrees above normal, a lot of gulf moisture providing the fuel for a lot of showers and thunderstorms as well. here's a look at that timeline. about 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. you're going to start to notice some of the first of the strong to severe cells begin to develop an
