you can see it's over the north bay and the south bay. it's going to take a long time to get down toward the south bay. as we roll through the day on sunday, there we go, 8:00 a.m., it's over the north bay. >> then starting to spread. >> exactly. but not much down there into the south bay. we'll have to go into the afternoon to get that consistent rainfall through the peninsula and east bay. south bay, you're still in that rain shadow, we call it a rain shadow because the santa cruz mountains seal a lot of that moisture. once we hit sunday evening, it moves right down into the south bay by about 7:30 into 9:30. we should see this storm system clear out once we hit monday morning. with that said, i did want to show, look at these totals, focusing on the north bay, that magenta pink color to gray, that's two to four inches of rain. that's a lot. we could see flooding specifically in the north bay. they're going to get hit the hardest. two inches on average in the east bay and peninsula. i still think we'll get in 3/4 inch to 1 inch. a lot h

it pushes into the east bay and south bay. that is a good for our -- four hour period of more rain. 6:00, it is raining in the south bay, and we are looking at that game being not only rainy and windy, but it continues all through the evening hours. northbay gets a break through the overnight hours. the front still has not cleared the santa clara valley until about 3:00 in the morning. rainfall totals through early monday morning look to be about 2.7 in oakland, 2.8 in fremont. that is another inch or so for you. concord another 2 inches to go. livermore, you have about three inches on the way. santa rosa looking at another 2 inches or so. along half moon bay, still a couple inches. 11:00, the winds continue to shift, 40 to 50 miles per hour -- i should say gusts. then they will shift by 4:00 or 5:00 into the south bay. the front is making progress, but not until the late afternoon, and we are still left with breezy winds. early in the morning, wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour. along period of west northwesterly swell of bre

down in the south bay a quarter inch and/or less. as we get you into that sunday storm system, this is going to line up. there's the atmospheric river right there. it's like a big fire hose pointed at the state. just an onslaught of moisture. as we head into sunday night it's aimed right at the bay area and continuing into the morning. i've raised the totals from three-quarters to 3 inches. some of the rain shadowed valleys will be three-quarters of an inch. for the north bay and higher elevations, 3 inches will be possible. you'll see on my seven-day forecast we dry it out by wednesday and thursday of next week. the same thing goes here across those inland valleys. so we've got the storms on the way. remember, drop, cover and hold. when you were bringing that up earlier, janelle, it made be think about the hayward fault. 1868 was the last major quake on that fault so we have to watch out for that. >> we have to be always prepared. >> we are due. thanks, jeff. >>> up next here at 6:00, do you want to get into stanford? will legacy ad

and for those of you in the east bay. but for the south bay sonny bill. san jose the like what atmospheric river. it's still dry there. but don't worry, you'll notice the impacts of that atmospheric river arriving sunday nights. you are going to have to wait few more hours. but for the rest of us, especially those of you in the north bay. it's going to be knocking on your doors and windows by around 3 o'clock for your sunday morning. so don't be surprised if you notice some heavier downpours and gusty winds by then. but we are tracking overall very gloomy and cloudy conditions visibilety extremely poor as well. so please drive safely for your saturday night commute when tracker for already tracking winds picking up out of the south. for those of you in pacifica sustained winds at 22 miles per hour and wind gusts going to increase in the 30 to 40 mile per hour range along the coast and east bay shoreline, even for those of you in the highest peaks atlas peak in the north bay. we are expecting wind gusts to be in that 40 mile per hour range possible gusts u

not much for the south bay. then eventually we're going to get that rainfall moving to the south bay as we hit 7:30 at night on sunday. we could get into some flooding issues, maybe some mudslides in those fire burn zones. we're going to get all of this to clear on out once we roll into monday morning's forecast. rainfall totals, i've been talking about it, but this really is off the charts. we haven't seen anything like this in about ten months. right up through the north bay, that magenta to gray color is 2 to 4 inches. the 4-inch better bet would be up towards the mountains. right around 2 inches for the east bay and the peninsula. and down towards the south bay we're rain shadowed but i think we'll be in three-quarter to 1-inch range. if you're headed out at all on sunday, that wind again 20 to 45 miles per hour will make it gusty, especially at the game on sunday if you're headed to levi's. there's temperatures in the 50s. should begin to pick up by kickoff into halftime. on my seven-day forecast, we do get

pretty much 80s all around from the north bay, east bay, and south bay valley locations for saturday. now, contrast that to sunday. it is almost the exact opposite of what we are going to see around here on saturday. cloudy skies, cooling temperatures, a sea breeze increasing humidity across the fire lines there in the santa cruz mountains. seeing highs mostly there the low to mid-60s on sunday and as you are about to see, increasing clouds and rain chances showing up now sunday afternoon. the morning looks fine. then, by 4:00, rain approaching the coast moving through pretty quickly. by 7:00, out of the south bay there. on sunday, a few passing showers into monday morning. and then, round one starts to wind down. but it now looks like most of the bay area should at least get a little bit of rain late-sunday afternoon into sunday evening. and pass that, weather system number two arrives into tuesday night and wednesday. that impacting mostly the north bay. and then, progressively, now as we get into friday and next weekend, you can see the potential for wetter storms packing a bigger

light rain there at times through the south bay. south bay tends to fall. any time we get a little bit of rain, it's a welcome sight. afternoon breaks, so the heaviest part of the storm is happening right now. it will continue at least into the next hour or so. right around 8:30, 9:00 a.m. still remaining for the north bay. take a look at the hour by hour outlook. 10:00 a.m., we'll see the majority start trekking east. if you have plans to travel, they'll see the gusty winds. a couple showers. by 12:00, lunch hour, we should be in the clear at least when it comes to the rain. we're going to get a break from that. peeks of sunshine at times. the beautiful skies and then saturday into saturday afternoon, we're going to get a couple areas of light rain here and there. a little bit of a break before we see the rain outlook heading into sunday. here it is. the atmospheric river event we have been following. the river of the sky. and that's basically when we get a tap of moisture that directs itself right in our location bringing us heavy rainfall amounts in a qu

south along the peninsula, to palo alto, the south bay closing in on an inch. the winds have backed off or they were gusting 30 to 60 miles per hour this afternoon. they have calm down, and will remain light overnight tonight. we are mainly in the 50's, and will stay here through the overnight hours. on the storm impact scale, still a level four storm tonight, at least the next four hours. by 3:00 a.m., the storm should be out of here. we still have several hours of the south bay to get through with that heavy rain. roads are flooded, and we still have power outages. 1:00 a.m., scattered showers in the northbay, heavier pockets of rain in the south bay. by 4:00 a.m., the heaviest of the wet weather is out of here. it is tapering to scattered showers. by 7 a.m., we are seeing partly sunny skies. just an isolated shower here or there. additional rainfall on top of what we've already seen. probably at 10th to 2/10 of an inch. the heaviest has really moved out to the south and east. we're just talking about residual rainfall tomorrow morning. for the commute, use c

east bay and you're still rain shadowed in the south bay. it has a hard time developing because the higher elevations steal a lot of that moisture. then as we roll through the afternoon and the evening you'll start to see more consistent rainfall on sunday over the east bay and the peninsula. it's still going strong over the north bay but san jose again rain shadowed. as we head through the evening, you'll see at 7:30 at night on sundays we'll see that rainfall develop down over the south bay and this thing will kick out of here monday morning. get ready for these totals. this is just phenomenal. we couldn't get anything close to this if we tried for the past ten months. what you're going to see here is a massive bull's-eye of rain over the north bay. that gray to pink magenta color, that's anywhere from 2 to 4 inches. you can see the key at the top. a lot of the east bay and peninsula 2 inches. south bay rain shadowed but three-quarters to 1 inch for san jose. on top of this we'll get wind 20 to 45 miles per hour, so wet and windy. on my se

high stakes thieves targeting high-tech in the south bay. bizarre early-morning break-in involving a cryptocurrency machine inside a liquor store. we have the story only on nbc bay area news. >> reporter: this surveillance video from early thursday morning shows thieves pulling their truck up to the sunnyvale liquor store, reaching through the front door and tieing a cord around the atm inside. but this is not your typical atm. this one is a bitcoin atm. >> you put cash into the machine, and it increases your bitcoin account. >> reporter: that's what the thieves wanted, the cash inside. they pulled the bitcoin atm through the front of the business leaving a trail of damage before speeding off. >> it's there. it's got money in it. let me take it. >> reporter: as the price of bitcoin soars, the number of bitcoin atms where you can exchange cash for the cryptocurrency, is also on the rise. 48,000 of them are now dotted around the country. vulnerable to thieves in vans, like crypto is vulnerable on line to hackers. >> i mean, obviously, if i was

look at the south bay camera right now in san josÉ. you can see along 680, coming down heavy there as well. morgan hill. there are several advisories and watches in effect. the big concern is flash flood watches. this goes into effect and remains in place through early monday morning. we are monitoring those areas for standing water. we're also monitoring street flooding, anything that is potentially clogged, the gutters. wind advisories in effect all the way through 5:00 p.m. through tomorrow as well as some of the winds could gusts upwards of 50 miles per hour. there's also a high surf advisory in effect for the entire coastline. never turn your back to a wave. we're talking about increased coastal runoff. in addition to that, sierra snow totals could peak anywhere at two to three feet. there's a winter storm watch in effect as well, and not the best day to travel up to the sierra, and you could see closures there as well. 12:00 we start to get heavier pockets of rain push through. into the south bay around 2:30, it starts to get hea

and south bay. but we are tracking a plume of moisture bringing widespread light rain into the bay area right off the coast, expected to inch its way into the north bay and san francisco peninsula within just a few minutes. but we are going to see, though a lot of moisture from the subtropical plume from hawaii tapping into that call. the shades storm just to our north out in the pacific. both of those going to combine and bring us our atmosphere river. that is going to arrive during the overnight hours shortly after midnight. for those of you in the north bay and even into the san francisco peninsula by around 3 o'clock in the morning. the heaviest rain, big bull's eye over those of you in santa rosa by 3 o'clock and then that storm track going to shift northward remaining over the north bay. we're tracking widespread moderate to heavy downpours, even extending into vacaville by mid morning on sunday. but then it's going to start to shift to the south and east for most of the set san francisco peni

the south bay has seen very little rainfall. the rain is filling in as we speak as the yellow approach as of the south bay. look at the 24 hour rainfall. canfield is coming in with more than 12 inches of rain. more than 8 inches of rainfall here. we have seen issues elsewhere from oakland to san francisco. more than 3 inches of rainfall. more than 5 inches of rainfall in danville. 4.5 inches of rain in concord. very low totals in the south bay. those numbers will increase over the next couple of hours. flood advisories and flood warnings. you can see all those areas shaded in green. we have flooded roadways, excessive runoff. a similar story for parts of the east bay. we have seen a lot of rain. flood advisories are in effect this evening. one of the better issues we have been dealing with is the window backing off finally. we had wind gusts. the wind right now is windy in spots but nowhere near as strong as they were earlier today. this is a level four major storm we are tracking. the strong wind is backing off. we see numerous

a little bit here for the south bay. we'll continue with a similar picture like this with spotty rain through tomorrow's forecast. and temperatures for the most part will stay on the cool side. lots of 60s here throughout the bay area. we might get into a few low 70s here for parts of the south bay. right now i've got you at 69 here in san jose. 66 for napa. now, beyond this we are tracking that system as you roll into friday. i think by 1:00 a.m., most of that rainfall is off to the north. we'll see a widespread rain by 7:00 a.m. on friday. but this thing, it's going to get out of here quickly as we hit 10:30 in the morning. that moves on out. rainfall totals with it pretty impressive as we roll through friday morning half to three quarters of an inch for the north bay. east bay, a good part of the peninsula. south bay a rain shadow, a quarter inch or less. the seven-day forecast, you're going to see that system for the weekend, just starts to get going saturday night. i think it will pick up on sunday and then continue

no delays northbound 101 all the way out of the south bay. are you good to go if you have the early flight to catch. also highway 480 and 580 in the green which is good news means traffic is free flowing in both directions. >>> the latest on the fight to keep the a's playing baseball in oakland. taking a live look at the oakland waterfront near howard terminal. that is where this ballpark would be. in a late night vote the county board of supervisors decided to go forward with what they call a new ballpark district with an announcement of willingness. that vote would help finance the project. it was a 4-1 vote approving a nonbinding resolution to help the team pay for parks, affordable housing and infrastructure. city officials had been wanting a ballpark development with the a's that was 100% privately financed. they said that private financing would be necessary. the mayor sending out a statement late last night saying the vote by the board is a historic action that takes a clear path to keep the a's rooted in oakland and build a world clas

right above the south bay in the santa cruz mountains last night. we did have an accident on highway 17, which really snarled traffic between san jose down to santa cruz. but that was a product of some of these heavier showers that began last night continue on into this morning as well. coming out just a little bit. let's start with 92 here in the east bay. we do have the spots of stretching from that, a bridge span itself on up through hayward, up to san leandro isolated pockets of mostly just moderated moderate rainfall from time to time out towards the ultimate. also a little spot of rainfall. some of these showers actively moving. as you can see. nice little update for you there. we zoom out what you see in the sierra nevada is some snowfall. so heading up that direction. do expect some slick conditions. now as far as temperatures go, we are in the midst of some 40's and 50's oakland. you're at 56 right now. berkeley san mateo and each at 51 some low 40's up towards santa rosa right at 40 degrees this morning after what is a partly cloudy start
