it's not unusual to see snow in hawaii. 11,000 feet or high. mauna loa, this area does receive snow during the winter season. and today is no different. but it's the amount of snow and it's the wind that's going to accompany it. that's why the national weather service has issued blizzard warnings for some of the highest elevations. the big island. 1 to 4 inches possible. 12 inches of snow on a volcano, incredible. we barely are that in the colorado rockies, look across the hawaiian archipelago, and with the satellite imagery that we've noticed, picking up on the snow pack on mauna loa, you see the top portion of the volcano that indeed is the snow that's formed on that region lately. an area that wished they had snow is colorado. i wish it. many of the skiers and snowboarders do as well. obviously, the drought trends in the wrong direction. 98% under minimal snow pack. they'll have to wait until the end of this week to get any measurable snow and they'll take it because people steve amrolle past the most measurable snowfall. 227 days and counti

you think of hawaii. you picture palm trees and beaches. yet it still has those, but also really high elevations on the big island. so high when you get cold air coming over with some moisture, yes, you end up with snow. typically the island gets snow once a year. blizzard warnings, not so common. about three and a half years since the last one. there is one there today. up to a foot of snow and wind gusts up to as high as maybe about 100 miles per hour causing very poor visibility on the highest mountain peak. everywhere warmer, is there be rain and a lot of it. widespread rainfall totals and spots picking up close to ten inches of rain total once the tomorrow pushes off. mainland of the united states, 8% of the lower 48 has snow cover now. denver has yet to pick up any measurable snowfall so far this winter season. that may change for some of these areas across colorado. with this next system that's coming up. and the bulk of the snow eliminated up close to the canadian border stretching from montana to the u.p. of michigan. further south
