i am chris hayes. we are getting a clearer picture of the role that the wife of supreme court justice, clarence thomas, ginni thomas, late in the right-wing ecosystem. she has functioned as a key link between the four fringes of the conspiracy theory believing right, and the absolute centers of power, including not just a supreme court but also the white house. new reporting from the daily beast reveals that ginni thomas, a longtime conservative activist, with regularly go to the white house. that's during the trump years. and make quote, insane hiring and firing recommendations to then president donald trump. she would show up for white house meetings, quote, armed with written memos of who she her allies believe trump should hire for jobs, and who she thought trump should promptly purge. according to a former senior trump administration official, quote, we all knew that within minutes after jaime left her meeting with the president, we would start yelling about firing people for being disloyal. ginni

good evening from new york, i'm chris hayes. for about 15 months now the bulk of the department of justice investigation into the january 6th insurrection has of course focused on the people who actually stormed the capitol. there is still hundreds to go. it has mostly been the insurrectionist footsoldiers themselves generally pleading guilty to low-level charges. a few trials, if you convictions, one acquittal. or in some cases, they have actually blamed donald trump for inciting the criminal behavior, we will have more on that later in the show with a defense attorney from one of those individuals. a lot of that low hanging fruit, the people who are napped on video cameras, who were there, is now gone. and as we mentioned before, the doj is expanding the scope of its investigation to look at the people who applauded the insurrection. and that could include a man named jason sullivan. jason sullivan is a qanon supporter and a right-wing social media consultant. perhaps best known for his work with far-right political hatchet ma

hayes. it's hard to think of a more insanely flagrant violation of the basic international order than bombing a city while the un secretary general is they are on a peacemaking mission. that is exactly what happened today. russian forces apparently bomb to the capital city of kyiv and ukraine while un secretary general antonio gutierrez was there for talks with ukrainian president volodymyr zelenskyy. ukraine's foreign ministers condemning it as a heinous act of barbarism. it is quite a provocative act of violence as the war enters its new phase. because remember, it was not supposed to be like this. and not just according to me -- it's according to putin. russian president vladimir putin was very clear from the beginning that this was not going to be a war. back in february, he gave a long speech where he called, it quote, a special military operation, with the made-up justification of liberating russian loyalists in the country east and denazification. in fact, russia even made it illegal

good evening from new york, i'm chris hayes. at the man arrested for the violent shooting attack in new york city subway this week made his first appearance in federal court today. the judge ordered frank james to be held without bail. not that surprising. on charges of carrying out a terrorist attack on a mass transit system. that terrorist attack is a technical legal terms. the james apprehension comes amidst both the trauma of yet another mass shooting in america, and all too common occurrence in this country almost daily, oz well as an intensifying debate, policy grounds and politically across the country about crime policing and justice. specifically, what policing is for and what we wanted to do. and whether we would be more or less police to accomplish that. bigger or smaller police budgets. i think this is actually an important and clarifying moment in that debate, one that often gets oversimplify, but i think reflects a bunch of complicated issues. first of all, a person opening fire in a public space, like a subway car

good evening, everyone, from new york, i'm ayman mohyeldin in for chris hayes this evening. and it has been nearly two months since russia launched this unprovoked war on ukraine. and russian troops are bearing down on the eastern part of the country an area known as the donbas. they are healing their new assault with artillery and missile strikes all along the 300 mile eastern front. in the utterly devastated city of mariupol, the ukrainian government estimates the death toll now stands at more than 20,000. let that sink in for a moment. the commander of the last remaining ukrainian troops in that city, hold up in a steel -- with hundreds of troops and civilians is literally begging the world for help. >> [speaking foreign language] today ukraine's deputy prime minister said that a planned humanitarian corridor to evacuate civilians out of mariupol did not work as planned, blaming the russian government for its disorganization and negligence. according to the united nations, more than 5 million refugees have now fled the violence in ukraine and ukrainian president zelenskyy
