james entering the subway system. part of what raised alarms among police officials, james posted videos on social media in which he talks about mass shootings, race, and violence. the shock of the shooting still very fresh today. you see it here. people spilling out of a train car, dodging bullets, blood splattered on the subway car, on the platform. ten people were shot in all, incredibly all are expected to survive. let's get straight to the scene. jason, what is the latest? >> reporter: well, the investigation this hour, john, still very much focused on following up on leads that may in some way hopefully lead to the whereabouts of frank james. so what investigators are going to be doing is following up on anyone who may have known him, may have known places where he'd like to hang out. in addition to that they'll be looking at his previous addresses. we know he has a previous address in philadelphia, the same city where he rented that u-haul van. also following up on an address in wisconsin as well. in addition t

james was taken into custody without incident. denied bond, federal prosecutors argue that james should stay behind bars pending trial. saying, tuesday's attack, where ten people were shot and a dozen others were injured, was premeditated by james. prosecutors detailed james's planning in a letter to the judge, saying, quote, the defendant came to brooklyn prepared with all the weapons and tools he needed to carry out the mass attack, including a glock pistol, gasoline, torch, and fireworks. making the case that james posed a danger to the community. >> that's the guy. that's what the police report said that he would look like. >> reporter: before his arrest, new yorkers on edge were on the lookout for james. one student on a photography field trip reported seeing him on canal street wednesday morning. >> i was just looking for things to shoot on the street. graffiti. um, anything. and then, i suddenly saw him. >> reporter: the motive in tuesday's attack remains unknown. as investigators continue to look through evidence, includin

as a suspect. -- naming james as the substrate. when they caught him, he was in a mcdonald's fast food restaurant. patrol officers in the area went there. they couldn't find him inside but they kept driving around and were able to locate him. and again, because o that tip. what we are hearing from officials, he was arrested without incident, he did not fight back. he will be placed in a facility and face federal charges of committing a terrorist act in the ss transit subway station. they mentioned he has been known to the authorities. he has ties to several states. in new york, he had nine prior arrests between 1992 to 1998 from burglary, sex acts. he was somebody who was know they had talked previously about how they had seen his social media posts. they didn't give an exact motive in this briefing, they certainly are starting to piece all of that back together. on twitter, many people are celebrating this man named zach who called in the tip to the policeman. they are calling him the new york hero. >> bringing you a quick update
