end of the sierra, 28% of what is normal. just over 40% for the central and southern sierra. we will look back at historical data. last year, the survey found 59% of normal, which is not great, but at least we had some late- season rain in the bay area and snow events to boost that a little bit. we had plenty of snow early in the season. at the beginning of this year we were at over 150% of what is normal, but because we had nothing essentially since then, the number has dropped. so much of the snow has melted, and as i mentioned, a lot of it has sublimated. rather than melting and soaking into the ground, it evaporates without ever saturating the ground. the 38% we measured today, same as in 2015. we will see if there is any hint of rain in the forecast in just a few minutes. >>> right now, a group of demonstrators are rallying outside of san jose city hall. they are protesting a police shooting last weekend. many of them are holding signs for 20-year-old green, shot by police outside of a restaurant early sunday morning. it

if you look at the soil moisture, there is sierra. there are northern mountains in the bay area. if you come to the sierra, where you have deep shades of red up and down mid sections of the range there is a key which tells you soil moisture is at historically dry levels. that is important because when that 38% of the snowpack melts off really fast over the next six weeks, most of that's going to go into the ground because the ground is really going to be able to absorb this because it is so critically dry. that means it does not necessarily go into reservoir. we will get some to flow in but not as much as we would have if we were not in such a significant drought. one other thing i wanted to show you, that's what we looked like today. here is what we looked like in 2019 on april 1. look how much snow there was. that was the last year we had a good snowpack. the whole state looks green, not just the snow. it's a major issue. i will have more on the forecast and a big warm up next week in a few minutes. >> thank you. >>> starting today, san francisco power and water customers will
