we're caught in this loop of violence that seems to be never ending right now. >> and anthony barksdale, we're still waiting to learn more details about how this happened, the motive of the shooter. we obviously have no idea what the motive of the shooter is. we know that the school district tweeted that there was a, quote, active shooter around 12:15 p.m. texas time. police say the individual was arrested just after 1:00, almost an hour later, we're now told thatdesieged. what do you make of the timeline? >> it's just how fast these incidents can unfold. you know, it takes seconds. seconds to have multiple victims, and in this case, little kids shot and killed in seconds with these weapons that are available. and the timeline is -- it is what it is. if police, if law enforcement was able to find the suspect, even after suicide, then they were doing the best they could. and to just piggyback on what andy just said, this stuff, it's going to stick with everyone involved. everyone is going to remember this horrible day and think about the little kids. so i believe that law enforcement is

i want to bring in cnn national security analyst anthony barksdale. anthony and juliet, good evening to both of you. anthony, what are the most important things that law enforcement officials are doing tonight to determine why this gunman opened fire in that elementary school? >> well, they have to execute search warrants, gather as much evidence as they can. what computer was he on, social media, they can go into social media and figure out the conversations he was having. we're only looking for motive. they also have to take a look at the fact that now this is the second incident that we know of where the shooters, these young shooters are coming in -- and killing elderly black people. they're killing kids and wearing body armor. so this is something where law enforcement executives have to say, look, if these shooters are coming in and taking this many lives this fast and now officers are shooting them, making contact with them, or the off-duty officer in buffalo actually hit the suspect but he didn't stop him, then what are we doing to stop these

also joining us, cn nrknn law enforcement analyst, anthony barksdale. it's good to see you. i wish it was under better circumstances. i've been watching your reporting from new york. shimon tlhere was a press conference today, they provided many more questions than answers to all of this. >> they one thing they did provide as a time line and we have been asking them for this timeline of how things unfolded here and what this time line shows, it starts with this event, with this crash that occurs here outside the elementary school at 11:28 in the morning. then at 11:40 in the morning there you see about 12 minutes or so after the gunman walk sboos the school and then 11:44 that is when law enforcement first starts to make their way into the school. then there's a gap of one hour that the gunman is inside the classroom. the police make to effort to get inside. they say the door was barricaded. that was the question today. i asked the director here what was the -- how was he barricaded. what that this about. take a listen to that exchange. >> you guys have said he was barricade

anthony barksdale joins me now, former acting baltimore police commissioner, along with our own ed lavandera with the new reporting here. commissioner, let me start with you, what ed was laying out. that is what we understand here about the timeline. obviously, still a lot more we need to know. investigators are saying up to an hour passed between the time the shooter arrived on the campus of robb elementary school, fwabarricading himself inside that classroom to the time he was neutralized. what do you make of this timeline thus far? >> it's concerning. i would like to know exactly what was going on with the officer's response. when you have an active shooter, you go to the sound of the gunfire. your goal is to get to the suspect as fast as possible, incapacitate, neutralize. let's not dance around it, you're trying to take this individual out. before that person harms any others. an hour? 40 minutes, whatever. that's a long time. i don't know if this guy is moving around, position to position, trying to barricade, using cover here or there. but i wonder where were all of the resources to g

joining me is anthony barksdale, former acting baltimore police commissioner. you heard in nick's piece that chief arredondo just posted about active shooter training at the uvalde high school just a few months ago. it seems he should have been aware of the protocol but went against it. is that how you're seeing this? >> well, that's how i take it. you can have all the training in the world. you can say that you train. but when it's time to implement that training in a real-life situation, that's when it really matters. and we saw in those poor families, those poor children, those teachers, they saw a complete failure. and they're paying a horrible price because of poor decision making. >> how does that failure happen, though? >> this is -- it's something, i keep looking at the situation and trying to figure out what went wrong beyond this chief being in charge of the incident. i mean, we know that the kids are still calling. so they're still alive. they're still calling 911. you still know there's gunfire inside the school. you go in. and just because there's
