dave mccormick, dr. mehmet oz neck-and-neck in the battle for the primary on the republican side for the u.s. senate. could be days before we have a winner, could be weeks. martha maccallum is with us now. how are you doing, martha. good morning. your top line thoughts. >> counting all the votes and showing us what's going on. thanks for that. >> bill: you're welcome. all i did was push buttons. what i would have liked to have done is said so and so is the winner. how do you evaluate what we're looking at right now? >> it is very interesting and interesting that dave mccormick has held up better in some of the western parts of pennsylvania than maybe some people might have thought looking at the race and the people involved in this race. so his strength i think is really due to the organization that they have around them. and then of course with dr. oz you have the trump endorsement and he was doing robocalls, the former president. so you have a lot of people that pushed for that. also interesting was th

. >> so, even if it's not oz, maybe it's mccormick. if he ends up being fetterman's opponent, what is fetterman gonna be like to run against, dave? >> first of all. you can't make this up. right, now officers claiming to a razor-thin read. and what's his path to reclaim, that it's mail-in ballots to claim that. the best case for fetterman, is that the dispute over this republican race drags on for weeks, and it's not resolved, and there's courtroom battles. of course, it's too soon to say, we don't know what the final unofficial count is going to be. but, look, democrats went with her gut. this is a cathartic election year, both parties bases are angry for different reasons. republicans obviously, hostile to biden at the same level that democrats were hostile to trump in 2018. but democrats, they are not embracing electability to the extent they did in 2018, or more moderate candidates. the growing with people who they think are authentic, democratic primary voters they like john fetterman, and believe he can tap into that working clas

latest numbers show mehmet oz leading dave mccormick by just 1300 votes here in lancaster county all hands on deck after printing errors discovered on 22,000 mail-in ballots which have to be manually remarked and rescanned. >> the assurance is that we keep a chain of custody here at the county so that every one will be processed. we'll double check the number and make sure every ballot is counted. >> the top leading republican candidates in the race question the integrity of the 2020 presidential election but so far have not commented on the count in their own race, we did see an attorney for the oz campaign watching in lancaster and representatives from mccormick and kathy barnette's campaign was there and the county chairmanner -- chairman of the republican and democratic parties. >> i'm confident in the processes here, we have been from the begin of the event know what's going on here. >> officials will finish the counting of the ballots by the end of day tomorrow but even then the race may not be over because pennsylvania law requires a recount if the margin of the victory is 0.5

the answer to your question is that dave mccormick has outperformed dr. oz among the write-in ballots and the absentee ballots. and so his perspective, mccormick, is one of count anything that was not cast on election day because chances are, i'll fair better than will doctor oz. oz, you would not be surprised to hear, and with the support of rona mcdaniel from the rnc says, no, if they're lacking a date on the ballot, it shouldn't be cast. it shouldn't be counted. i should point this out. we are talking about ballots that came in by election day. so, this is not an issue of were they received on time. there's a state law requirement that says you've got to write down the date that you actually filled out your ballot. a federal court decision last friday from the third circuit in an unrelated case said even if you lack a date, it ought to be counted. so, mccormick is pointing to that decision and saying that ought to be the standard. >> so, essentially because of course the former president donald trump was really saying, look, declare that you're the vic
