this is gary tuchman, cnn, in san francisco. >>> and now a cnn exclusive. a junior officer in the russian military says he is overwhelmed by shame and guilt for the unprovoked invasion of a peaceful country and risked it all by resigning the commission and walking away. cnn's suzanne malveaux is in ukraine with the story. suzanne? >> reporter: good evening, pam. exclusive to cnn, a russian junior officer who speaks that he is anonymous to protect the safety and the identity speaking to cnn saying he was a part of the unit february 22nd the troop build-up along the border with ukraine and that evening that they were order ds to give over the cell phones and lost communication with the world and ordered to paint the "zs" on the vehicles to symbolize the invasion and no idea that that was in fact the mission. the following day in crimea. he didn't know they were going to move forward but on february 24th he says, yes, he was part of the launch of the war inside ukraine and said many comrades and himself did not understand the goal. he tells cnn, quoting here,

gary tuchman interviewed the family last week, and it was in that interview that the family was surrounded by the three siblings. jose flor us junior was the oldest of four siblings. when the dad said he went to the hospital, he asked for his son hoping that the child was still alive, but he was led to a room with a chaplain, he said at that point he knew what had happened. in addition to those two visitations and rosaries, the beloved teacher, one of two teachers shot and killed last week, irma garcia, 48 years old, her visitation and rosary expected to be held later today. she was a teacher at the school for 23 years and it was just a few days after her shooting death that her husband died as well. these are just a handful of the victims from last week's tragedy. and it was just a short time ago that our affiliate, kbbwaio spoke with one of irma garcia's friends. listen to what she had to say. >> i just looked out the window, and i see this guy with a gun walking up. and i just told my class, get on the ground. get on the ground. get to the corner. i just kept hearing shots fired. i just

gary tuchman will take us to a private non-profit women's clinic in tennessee to look at how the court's decision could affect the services they offer. more than half of states, 26 to be exact, could enact abortion bans if the court strikes down roe v. wade. for now, many republican lawmakers appear more interested in talking about the leak from the supreme court rather than the draft decision itself. the number of democratic lawmakers have already spoken publicly about their past decisions to have an abortion. congresswoman pernilla jayapal spoke about the complications from her first pregnancy and the toll it had on her marriage and physical and mental well being. >> i knew i was not ready to have another child, so i religiously took my daily contraceptive pill. despite that, i became pregnant. i consulted with my doctors who told me that any future pregnancy would likely also be high risk to me and the child, similar to what i had gone through with my first child. i very much wanted to have more children, but i could not imagine going through that again. after discussions with my part

our gary tuchman has more now on jose flores, jr. he was 10 years old. his family says he was an amazing son and big brother. take a look. >> reporter: 10-year-old jose flores jr. had a huge smile on his face when he received this honor roll certificate at school on tuesday. just a few hours later, the world changed. this is his mother, father, and three siblings. jose flores sr. went to the hospital hoping his son was a patient there. he says a nurse took him into a hospital chapel. >> what did the nurse tell you? >> as soon as they took me to the room, i already knew what it was about. she didn't have to say much. the way she took me in there, the way she said, have a seat. we want to talk to you. we got to tell you some things. i mean i already knew what was next. >> reporter: jose junior, a loving son and big brother, did not survive the gunman's rampage. jose senior called his wife, cynthia. >> he just said, my baby didn't make it. >> reporter: it seemed like a nightmare. jose senior and cynthia just couldn't comprehend their eldest child was gone.
