house minority leader kevin mccarthy and four other republicans, scott perry, jim jordan, andy biggs and mo brooks has been subpoenaed by the committee. prior to sending subpoenas today, the committee sent letters to the members asking them to speak voluntarily. he said regrettably they have refused and were forced to take this step to ensure the committee uncovers facts concerning january 6. joining me is ali vitale and carol lemick. the subpoenas have just gone out. what is the expectation? >> the expectation is things are not likely to change on the cooperation front and the top republican, kevin mccarthy said he still sees this committee as illegitimate. he has to come out of that chamber and we're waiting for him just a few steps away. we might get another chance to ask him more about that, but tellingly, mccarthy then pivoted to talking about inflation and the economy. it is, again, another reminder the way that republicans would like to contend with this and other issues but really the central focus here is the committee going a step further than they have ever gone with repub

here to weigh in on all this, republican congressman jim jordan with chris bruegel with us. jim, so you have these whistle-blowers come forward. they denied that they were going to investigate parents and school board meetings. and you have now examples, very specific samples. one dad that was against was -- it fit the profile of an insurrectionist prayer they did an investigation into him and the other examples you have given. so did he lie to the country? >> it sure looks like he was. that example you just gave about that dad, when the fbi interviewed the person who filed the complaint, that person then said well, there was no crime, there was no threat, i just thought he looked like someone who would do something we don't agree with. that is not how it works in america, but the apparatus, the process that the administration set up come out that is how this all came to life. he did the memo to all u.s. attorneys after the letter was sent to the white house from the school board administration and 60 days after he does the memo, the fbi says, establish this threat, put it o

others who are subpoenaed, jim jordan, mo brooks, andy biggs and scott perry. these are people who played a very big part in trying to help the former president stay in office and there is a lot of information that the committee believes they can learn from them. this is an extraordinary, extraordinary request, however. so you can bet that there is going to be some time before we see any of those people appear before the committee. >> there is testimony and there is documents. fbi investigators issued a subpoena to the national archives for access to classified documents trump took to mar-a-lago. made a bit of a story a few weeks ago. how serious of a story is this? >> this is an investigation by the fbi to see whether classified information was exposed, whether there was a follow -- whether the trump -- sorry, erica, the -- whether the trump in mar-a-lago followed rules that governed the preservation of classified information. and so we know that this is a grand jury subpoena that went to the national archives for them to turn over these boxes of documents tha
