[applause] >> wow, thank you all so much. thank you very very much. thank you so much. it's great to see all of you. roger, thank you for that very kind introduction. i think i should probably take roger with me everywhere i go, that was wonderful, but i want to thank you very much and i want to thank the ronald reagan foundation and institute for giving me this opportunity and i want to thank all of you for being here tonight. it truly is a great privilege to be here at this incredible library dedicated to the president whom i most admire. the two leaders who inspired me to become a republican were ronald reagan and my dad. my father served on the house judiciary committee during watergate and he was the first republican to come out for the impeachment of president nixon. he put doing the right thing for his country ahead of self-interest and the demands of his party. and now that decision cost him politically, but it earned him something more valuable, a quiet conscience and an hono

joining us now is republican governor larry hogan of maryland. sir, thank you for being with us this morning. i know you, of course, in georgia, endorsed governor kemp and i wonder are you thinking that the outcome of today's races could be a turning point for your party? >> well, i really hope that it is. and i'm pretty kft that governor kemp is going to have a resounding victory today and likely avoid any runoff. and i think that will send a real statement. it won't be the first time. we have wouln the govern's race in nebraska and idaho and now georgia. it will be four in a row i think that president trump was attacking some of those republicans and they all are doing pretty well in their primaries. >> do you think trump will look at the outcome and factor that into his decision about what to do with his future? >> well, i can't really speak for what -- how he makes his decisions, but i think, you know, his influence while still very large in the republican party, i think it is diminished and will continue to diminish as he makes bad decisions

chris christie, governor larry hogan from maryland are now more willing and now more emboldened to stand up to trump, particularly on the issue of the big lie. host: mike pence endorsed brian kemp and campaign for him. what does that say about his influence? guest: i don't know what it says about his influence. by the time mike pence showed up, it was obvious brian kemp was going to win and win easily. so, he was betting on a horse that was several lengths ahead. on the other hand, i think what you are seeing is that mike pence is -- pence's willingness to separate himself from donald trump is growing. i think it is very clear, he has been very tentative about it. but he has said that trump was wrong in thinking he could overturn the election on january 6. he has been somewhat critical. but this was, really, i think one of the most traumatic steps he took. i also think that the odds of mike pence winning the republican nomination in this current environment are slim. they might be slim and none. but it is interesting that somebody like pence would have chosen this particular race to make

for example, in maryland, republican governor larry hogan announced that $501 million had been stolen by a massive criminal enterprise involving more than 47,000 fraudulent unemployment claims. that was in july of 2020. the tip-off was a huge spike in out of state claims for pandemic assistance. the only language criminals and fraudsters understands is accountability. there have been a steady stream of arrests announced by the doj, like the houston guy who cashed in his money for a lamborghini. that's a small potatoes compared to the grifters who siphoned off as much as $1 billion amid procurement chaos during the early days of covid as detailed in the new book "david, inc" by david mcswain. the vast majority will probably never be found. and the tragedy is that for most people who needed it, covid relief was an experiment that worked. it stopped many folks from losing their jobs and homes and dragging the whole economy down with them. it helped america bounce back to a 40-year high of economic growth just last year. senator everett dirk son reportedly said, a billion here, a billion

and there is a way, and that's why you have governors like larry hogan and others around the country who are saying, look, we need, as a party, to move past the big lie and moving past the big lie is inseparable from moving past donald trump, because donald trump is never going to give up this big lie. he is never going to move past, insisting now that this is the litmus test. so, i do think this is significant, and i do think that it's worth paying a lot of attention to, because it is going to be a setback for donald trump, and you know, you have devoted a lot of time to the insurrection and the constant ongoing coup attempts and the ongoing january 2nd. well, that's all tied up with donald trump insisting that the election in georgia was stolen, and tomorrow night, the governor who didn't like the outcome but is saying that the election was not stolen is going to defeat donald trump's hand-picked candidate. so, that is kind of a bfd. >> look, i agree with your slicing the right of your country off, seeing if you can break its fever of this autocratic -- it's not an attraction. it's
