new at noon. santa clara county is drawing awareness to the growing epidemic of fentanyl, an opioid use enforcement and lawmakers are marking the first ever fentanyl awareness day in san jose today, overdose deaths have risen from 29 back in 2019. to 135 last year. self the officials want to increase efforts on education and outreach to that end, a newly formed fentanyl working group started meeting last month and includes parents of teenagers who died from fentanyl poisoning. the best way to reduce demand is to educate and we are using social media platforms to do that. unfortunately those same social media platforms can be used to discover and transact. which in many cases that occurs with young people. but most importantly, they can be used. to educate. officials said. just a few weeks ago, police seized 11,000 fentanyl pills, which they say is enough to kill everyone in santa clara county. that's a full officials are expecting a busy summer at the airport and travel returning to its highest le

thank you new at noon . san jose police have now made two additional arrests for the death of a three year old child. the child's uncle, rene aaron hernandez santos in her grandfather, rene trigueros hernandez, were taken into custody this week. the child's mother, claudia hernandez. santos was arrested in january. all three are charged with child abuse that led to the death of the victim. according to court documents. the little girl was tortured and killed in september by her family as they performed an exorcism ritual. initial reports from the coroner's office that implicated the mother as well as a statement of facts that we collected in evidence in january were enough to arrest her. the follow up done by the full coroner's report, which was released just very recently. this as of this week, i believe was later implicated the two individuals that were arrested just two days ago. the killing happened inside a small scene as a church where trigueros hernandez was the leader. investigators are asking anyone

at noon. >> thank you so much for joining us here on the kron. 4 news at noon. i'm stephanie lin, 19 elementary school students and 2 teachers are dead after a gunman opened fire yesterday. governor greg abbott sharing new details in a press conference just moments ago. authorities say the gunman barricaded himself inside of a 4th grade classroom and took the lives of more than a dozen children and 2 adults. police forced their way in and exchanged gunfire with the shooter, killing him. that gunman just turned 18 years old this month and lived in uvalde. authorities say the gunman went to the same elementary school when he was younger and reportedly lived about 2 blocks away. people who knew the shooter said his anger appeared to start after he learned he would not be graduating high school with his classmates. and that conversation is reportedly was started an argument with the gunman's grandmother. authorities say that's when he shot her in the face. she survived and is still hospitalized. the gunman then got in his grandmother's truck and crashed through a ba

new at noon, a chilling arrest out of san jose. police say they arrested a man on charges of felony stalking. 43 year-old brian velasquez was fired from a local construction company back in january. the company told police after he was fired, velasquez began posting threatening pictures of himself on social media and sending his e-mails to old coworkers, messages that contain profanity and those co-workers addresses after an investigation velasquez was taken into custody last week. police also confiscated several guns from his possession, including 2 assault rifles, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, body armor and materials to make ghost guns. alaska's has since posted bail. thursday is going to mark one year since the tragic mass shooting at a vta railyard in san jose. later this afternoon, the san jose city council will proclaim a day of remembrance for the victims. it's happening around one 30 outside of san jose city hall. and then on thursday, the vta does plan to hold a candlelight vigil and a ceremony at the rail yard. that'
