you made a trip to iowa. it raised some eyebrows recently. there have others that have made that trip to iowa about possible prospects. are you considering a run for 2024? >> well, bret, as you would imagine, my focus is winning my re-election this year and i have really spent very little time thinking about 2024. but the truth is every friday night when you are in high school you are looking forward to the next game. this friday night is 2022, i want to win this game before thinking about the next game. i certainly am thankful for joni ernst, senator from iowa for the introduction and the invitation to come spend time in her home state and we had a great time together. >> bret: last thing, you had a bipartisan effort on police reform. >> yes, sir. >> bret: it did not get through in part because democrats walked away from it. you are now in the prey says of bipartisan effort on gun reform. we don't have all the specifics of that. the test of that language moving forward. is there a fear that that is going to be the same thing that you saw wit

i see that all over iowa. i talked to businesses that want to expand, but they can't because there are not enough houses. housing is one of the most sensitive areas relative to interest rates. i want to ask, will raising interest rates help supply their, and are there other tools we should be looking at to do that? chair powell: i would agree, there is a problem with longer-term housing supply and difficulty of creating adequate housing. what our tools can do in the near-term and medium-term, they can restore balance in the housing market. you have had high housing price increases across the country over the last couple of years because of demand and low rates. you are seeing the housing sector slow down because of higher mortgage rates. >> do you have anything we should have on our radar are looking to do to assist with this? chair powell: i think these are issues for congress around housing supply. if you talk to builders, we do talk to builders, they will talk about the longer-term issues, lack of supply of
