chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here. really weather playing a big part in all this going to cooperate. yeah, that on shore wind kicking in right now. that's some good news that usually bringing higher humidity. but those gusts are little bit stronger and so that can push them along. we're seeing that fire. if you saw in some of those last pictures start to run up the hills. that's what fires like to do. and you can see it right here. you see some of these areas. you so canyon road right here. you also see atlas peak road kind of give you idea where the fire is located right now. >> there's some large ranch is more of a rural area. but the fire is currently located. so these houses are spread out. that's a good thing. but again, firefighters a chance hopefully hopefully attack the fire before cause any issues. the problem is, though, is that we're seeing some strong, a westerly component the wind. so those winds really begin to move in now. so places that are on the east side, if you're in this direction right here, east

there's a check in with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow and and he was talking about the hope that things start to settle overnight. what were you seeing out there? yeah, in general, the winds tend to settle down and we're not seeing that offshore wind return tonight. so more of a general type weather pattern here where we get the sea breeze going. that's some good news. here is the latest forecast on some of the winds overnight. tonight we're taking for a closer look. now you can see oak knoll and you see out bill just to the east. now is that fire right now that active fire continuing in that area overnight tonight, those winds begin to subside. in fact, you'll notice they begin to come up out of the south. so the winds going to push that fire along in a different direction with these winds getting very light. the models right now point of paying those winds to 4, maybe 5 miles per hour as we head into early tomorrow morning as we head through the day, the sun comes up. the atmosphere starts to mix a bit likely going to see the winds pick up a bit. and then that sea breeze w

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here to talk about some storms. yeah, the tropics starting to heat up at this time of year. little quiet. we have something early on, but now we've got another storm system out there. this is celia that is spinning around now off the coastline. see kabul. there you see a mas of law in mexico proper. and there you are. that storm system continuing to churn not well organized, though, only a tropical system right now. and here's the very latest on the syria sustained winds of 40 miles per hour and is moving west-northwest at 12 miles per hour, which is taking it away from the land mass there, which is some good news is going to generate some big swells there in the kabul along baja, california, are likely to see some big waves rolling in there. but the latest track continues to move it away from the coastline, continuing to push into cooler waters weakening somewhat kind string sometimes of these storm systems at this time of year. you see these move into some cooler water begin to fall apart that some of that moistur

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins a snag here. a little bit of the wind blowing in that video. that's not a good sign. not at all. in the wind really. >> picking up that afternoon. sea breeze right now. so we've got winds blow over 20 miles an hour on an active fire. and you saw the brush out there. very, very brown. look at some winds in and around the bay area right now, 20 to 25 miles an hour. >> in the san francisco. so get blustery out there right now. yeah, where that fire is located. ample amounts of a brush in that area. so you've got that whole spot there. a mclaren that you're looking plenty brown brush. you've got to some mountainous regions to which the fires like to climb up a bit. and in general that's pushing in a more of an easterly fashion. so that is going to send the fire and the flames and the smoke generally in this direction over this hill. and this is what we're watching here is the golf course in around that area as well. so something to watch out for is that fire will likely continue to blow in that direct

urologist lawrence karnow is here. he wants to bring us up to date on the wind conditions around that fire in napa. yeah, the fire actually a more favorable conditions, but the winds are picking up a little bit today. so little more gusty. the winds out there today yesterday, not as windy. now we're starting to see those winds. >> getting up near 25 mile an hour gusts. you can see that in oak knoll here. and this last hour had some 24 mile an hour gust, more of a westerly component that wind. and that is good news. that is still that on shore breeze. so that is carrying with it higher humidity and that slows down the ability for that fire to spread as fast. but these winds make these fires a run a bit, especially the afternoon. but as the sun set, the winds calm down and then the firefighters get a better chance of getting hold that overnight. tonight, even better news is what we're looking at off the coastline. we've got a pretty decent low on back to a very impressive low for this time of year to see this low. a very

little breeze there at the bottom of telegraph hill, our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow standing by with more on what's ahead. the yeah. start to see some fog form along the coastline today. a sign of some changes now and we're going to see some much larger changes. i think tomorrow these temperatures really going to start to drop. and even that fog. >> begin to move in now. san bruno mountain there near sfo. you see some of the clouds begin to make their way inside the bay. and of course, that sea breeze rather strong out there today. we've had gusts over 30, almost 40 miles per hour in the san francisco today. so blustery in spots. you see some of the winds kicking around right now in the san francisco sfo, almost 40 mile an hour winds there to 23 in fairfield. so it's all around us right to the delta. and that will be the case. it's going to usher in some much cooler air that is going to be pushing further on shore. you can see the fog and low clouds moving in along the right now into parts of pacific all the way down over an on a half moon bay for the south of the pescadero a

. >> meteorologists to chief meteorologist lawrence karnow to talk about condition or every day. we're just talking fires, right? seems like in the afternoon. it just seems like this is what's going on right now on this one other occasion, see one of these spot fires popping up again. but this one, the much more populated area that makes us a bit more dangerous. mary avenue you can see right here, you can see 80, 80 a little further to the south and right, just about the at the 80 them, our mary avenue where they come together. that's where we expect the fires, the winds, not all that bad. we're seeing a west northwesterly wind about 9 to 11 miles per hour. so right now, as far the weather's concerned, it doesn't look like the weather is going to be a major factor whether that's going to run very fast. in fact, the winds are not that strong down in that area right now. but certainly this time of the evening hours, those winds can pick up a little bit of would be unheard of to see those winds start to move up closer to 20 miles per hour. well, those homes in and around that area,

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us down. and but these things are popping up all over the place. yeah, kind of scary this early in the season to see this many fires we have a long way to go. >> the summer months, but just want to check out some of the wind conditions in and around that fire. right now. the good news is they're getting a sea breeze. the sea breeze, not too strong. and you can see in around here we're looking at winds corte madera. so those winds sweeping by 10 miles an hour. normally when their mill valley at 16, but you start to mess with some of the topography in these winds can kind of whip around in spots. so good news. firefighters get handle on that fire right now. in the meantime, this may be better news for our fire concerns. how about that? we've got a storm system off the coastline. something you don't always see in june. but that is a beautiful looking storm system for this time of year. guess part of the remnants of it. i want to show you the long-range forecast on the system as we head through to

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here with a look at the conditions out there. really all depends on the wind with that smoke, right with the wind switched around. >> we see more of that westerly component, that sea breeze that's kick in that almost due east right now. you can see here our smoke forecast model. here it is right now. you've got the fire located here in all that smoke streaming up over the mountain, making its way in the central valley may be smelling that may be in place like vacaville in winters, maybe even the sacramento overnight tonight that was going to start become slack again. and we watch that last night. so you see the in the napa valley here. all of a sudden, some of that smoke begins to pour back into the napa valley. so maybe you get up to a place like a saint lena, you get the out bill. you may start to smell some of that smoke as we head into the evening hours, in fact, by 9 o'clock or so almost 10, you can see it working its way back up into the valley. you could likely see that possibly in the napa to so overnight tonight that smo

let's check in now with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. yeah. kind of a one-day hit with the hot temperatures. that's the good news. so this is going to get real fast and will start to cool down a little bit. get a little more fresh air rolling in as we head in towards saturday. but tomorrow is going to there's no getting around it. >> we felt a little bit that today is the temperatures jumping outside. need to see those high clouds up above. there is a cold front off the coastline and that's all we're going to see some of those high clouds and that's about it. so, yeah, temperatures going to be the main story tomorrow as these numbers going to soar. national weather service issuing an advisory for heat inside the bay into the santa clara valley into places like livermore, danvitle, the tri valley, conquered renda also brought a you're looking at some hot temperatures. they're also in the napa say molina and petaluma very hot temperatures. an excessive heat warning through solano county in places like the lail into fairfield. you're going to see

tonight, our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow standing by says we've got some hot weather days ahead. yeah, really do the hottest temperatures of the season so far. looks like these temperatures getting up in the triple digits in some parts of the bay area. but i think it's going to be rather cool out toward the coastline. maybe 40 degrees cooler out toward the beaches. so not hot for everyone out there toward the golden gate bridge. some high clouds up above. you can see the sea breeze still blowing. and that will be the key during this little heat wave, as i think we're still going to see a sea breeze. and that means probably some fog along the coastline. keep those temperatures out toward the beaches. much cooler. but you get inside the bay get that big dome of high pressure overhead that's going to compress the air. so that marine air kind of caught up with the coastline. but you get inside the valleys. you're talking 90's in the san jose in the camel, santa clara valley, then the east bay. those temperatures turning some triple digits and an excessive heat warning actually poste

. >> all right to meteorologist lawrence karnow joining us now. i mean, we're dealing with this hot weather there in the inland areas i weather. and then when you get the wind involved recipe for disaster really is. i mean, they're just so much material to burn and that we have the drought conditions. so it's extremely dry out there. we've had temperatures recently 90's triple digits into the foothills of the sierra nevada winds. >> weather coming up on the south. and that's a different category here. and that's probably good news for firefighters is pushing the fire a little more of a northerly direction. you can see the yuba river year lease the norfolk just to the south. you get the southern folk here in between. but we've got the fire burning winds blowing 14 to 16 miles per hour. but i think we're going to see a good influx of some nice moisture in the atmosphere. that means a strong onshore push. that means it's going to come to suppress the fire that will help firefighters going to have a little slow down the movement of that fire. as long

yeah, our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is with us. of course, things pretty calm here. but lawrence, you've been tracking the weather in the fire zone all evening. yeah, we had those winds almost a 30 mile an hour that's dangerous. >> that was a strong sea breeze in the afternoon. the good news is the winds have started to back off and you can see all of a sudden they start to tail off a bit specially as we head into this hour to 10 miles per hour or so. that is some good news as the fight of what firefighters getting a chance with less wind out there right now. but you can see in and around that fire, more of a a rural arer. but you can see the terrain here to you sees all the topography of that is factoring in the wind conditions. also factors in the fires fires love to climb hills and that's what they like to do, mostly with get more of a a westerly component to the wind into the afternoon. and that has been pushing the fire away the cities and up into the mountains. and that has been some good news in these areas to keep it away from ending the place people live. bu

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. joining us now is talk about the conditions out there and whether they're going to be beneficial to the firefighters or going to be a problem, well, you know, it kind of it's kind of both ways right now. we've had offshore winds have come to an end. >> we're seeing more of an on shore breeze, but that sea breeze is so strong. >> so you get a fire started. these kind of conditions and things are browned out there already. and so it's moving around. we're talking gusts over 20, maybe 30 miles an hour. so firefighters got their hands full out. there are trying to contain a fire like this, especially in dry conditions out in these areas. we've seen these winds are really kicking up this afternoon, especially that on shore breeze. you see the flow of the winds really making their way from west to the east. that's that on shore flow kicking in. and that's bringing with it. some of those gusts. you know that right just east of oak knoll that we're looking at the fire over 27 mile an hour gus

. >> chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now. and it's so fortunate there wasn't one of those red flag warnings yesterday with that fire start. yeah. who have those offshore winds have been a whole different story of him pushing that fire. actually back to much. >> the city's there in valley there in the napa valley. so the good news is the winds not a strong today. we've seen some gusty winds. at times. they backed off a bit. you can see it out there right now in the know you see where the fire is located right now. those have back down to a 17, 18 miles per hour. remember, yesterday were almost a 30 mile an hour gusts out there. so the winds down a little bit, although we are picking up that sea breeze right now on the course that's always a concern. when you get that afternoon, sea breeze going, usually these fires will come to life a little bit more as the the flames will be fanned by those winds out there for tonight. and so, yeah, we're seeing some of those gusty winds around the rest, the bay area to some blustery spots, e

and as if by magic, it reappears yet again, high clouds, lawrence karnow. that's a little patchy fog out there. yeah, the fog is going to be a factor. we're talking about that heat coming up in a few days of the hottest temperatures >> of the year so far. but that fog that's going make a probably a whole lot cooler up toward the beaches that were a lot of folks are probably be hanging out up there tonight this evening. you've got some nice clear skies out toward the golden gate bridge. that breeze is blowing. couple high clouds up above that. patchy fog has been lingering along the coastline all day long. we've got the excessive heat warnings going up and county. it's been backtrack just a little bit by the national weather service's looks like, yeah, it's going to be heatwave but not as hot as originally appeared. still, it is going to be toasty out there. triple digits are real possibility inland to as we head in toward friday and it's going to stay hot across parts of the bay all the way inside the bay into san jose. the santa cruz mountains and up in th

. >> chief meteorologist lawrence karnow with us now. conditions bad for fires out that fires and we've got the afternoon sea breeze blowing right now. that's bad enough. things are dry out there. that's an urban area. that's where a lot of people live right around that area. you see some of these winds now other gusting over 20 miles an hour. you see milpitas here. you see 1 one. you see 80 there as well. taking for a closer look. you can see where that fire is at. you've got mccarthy a boulevard right along here. you've got asthma drive right here. the fire located in this little general location and right there, you're going to see that smoke kind of pull in and around the fire and some of concern as well as the evening goes on. these winds are going to begin to subside. and that means that that smoke is all going to start to lay down. and that is going to start to spread in other parts of santa clara valley, specially the south to begin with. you see that smoke plume moving in this direction, further south, down towards san jose's, h

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here. he says things are going to cool down a a lot more. we felt that today. but i mean, tomorrow we'll see these temperatures, maybe 10 to 15 degrees below the average for this time of year is we've got an unusually cold system kind of rolling along the california coastline. get mentioned that you see some of those clouds moving in right now. that's from that system that is now dropping along the coastline and it will be off the coast as we head toward tomorrow. so temperature wise numbers have been down. 67 degrees right now in san jose. 67 in little remember yesterday they were in the 90's. much cooler there. 73, uncomfortable in concord. 76 insanely the 73 still in santa rosa. and 61 in petaluma. all right. the winds, they've been a big factor again today. we've seen some gusts over 30 miles an hour near the coastline. and we're going to continue to see those sea breezes blow as this system. it just kind of winding its way southward. you could just begin to tell it is beginning to drag

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is looking at that july 4th forecast. yeah, my little dog drew not a big fan of yeah. i called on we're going watch a lot of movie. i mean, that's what we're going to crank up maybe the old top gun. he's distracted little bit. but yeah, that's what you gotta do. hey, you know what 4th of july forecast going to be kind of interesting. it's a touching go. here's a little look at it early on. but probably partly cloudy skies. there's going to be an area of low pressure that's going to move up right along the coast and if that happens, i think we'll see a few clouds but if that system is cold enough, it actually may help to mix out some low clouds and fog. so we're going to bank on that for right now. and hopefully just a couple of patches of fog making its way along the coastline. temperatures a little cooler around 9 o'clock 50's and some mid 60's mild temperatures inland out there right now. that fog. that is the big concern, of course, on the 4th of july as we're going to see or that all the way in the coming days, the lo

this is the view from mount tam and chief meteorologist lawrence karnow standing by with what's ahead. you guys like that fog. we've got plenty of that working its way onshore. yeah. going to cool us down and bring all those temperatures well below the average. and of course, that's going to back off on some of the fire danger around the bay area, too. and you see that fog bank now entering inside the bay looking from the berkeley hills and is deep enough. now you see that there that it's going to push well on shore. also bunefit of that nice ocean breeze. we get that beautiful, fresh ocean air, all the weight of our valley. so looking good from the coast all the way inland as we head toward tomorrow afternoon with some of that patchy fog. and we're going to see plenty of it. watch the push overnight tonight than always get the strong. but tonight you're going to be sepsis. the an exceptional push, low clouds and fog not only in the bay in the valleys, but all the way through the delta in the sacramento valley by tomorrow morning. so usually when you get that kind of push the marine t

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins a snag here. a little bit of the wind blowing in that video. that's not a good sign. not at all. in the wind really. >> picking up that afternoon. sea breeze right now. so we've got winds blow over 20 miles an hour on an active fire. and you saw the brush out there. very, very brown. look at some winds in and around the bay area right now, 20 to 25 miles an hour. >> in the san francisco. so get blustery out there right now. yeah, where that fire is located. ample amounts of a brush in that area. so you've got that whole spot there. a mclaren that you're looking plenty brown brush. you've got to some mountainous regions to which the fires like to climb up a bit. and in general that's pushing in a more of an easterly fashion. so that is going to send the fire and the flames and the smoke generally in this direction over this hill. and this is what we're watching here is the golf course in around that area as well. so something to watch out for is that fire will likely continue to blow in that direct

and chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now. we just heard about a new fire today in el sobrante. so we're working to >> figure out the details on that doesn't seem extremely large are concerning. but what is concerning 3 yesterday, another today. and you know, here we are here. we are in june, but we can control this. most of these are human cause, right? mostly is over 90% of the fire's cause. so we have a big role in if we see those fires or not. but the conditions weather wise. yeah, you get those winds blowing. we've got that afternoon breeze blowing right now. some 20 some 30 mile an hour gusts around the bay area and that certainly strong enough. >> the push those fires long. we do have some fog developing along the coastline. that's going help out a bit. as you can see, a little more moisture in the atmosphere the next couple of days. but here's your fire weather forecast right now. and you can see the areas yellow and orange. those elevated to a moderate conditions in those areas. even high as you make your way, just to

so in light of that, let's check in with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow to give us an idea of what's happening. weather wise. talking about fires. one of these spot fires coming in the afternoon, right? really. >> at the optimal wins this when we get those real breezy conditions developing around the bay area, this one no exception. this in the bottle. now you see the fire burning near the landfill area there in the bottle and they'll continue to see some gusty winds of seeing some gusts over 20 miles an hour. in fact, in this some of those gusts as high as 26 miles per hour. you see that located really in awe northern parts of nevada. you see the continued winds there in that area. so, yeah, folks in and around this area, they're starting to shut down the road, of course, or at least to make it to slow going there on one. 0, one, as i'm sure they're trying to get a lot of fire vehicles in that location as soon as possible. these winds will likely continue. we'll see these gusty winds around the bay area continuing in the afternoon. probably not more than 30 mile an hour gusts

yes, our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here to talk about the fire conditions right now. of course, head of the holiday. >> all the fires out there. you probably hear those at night outside your that's concerned. we're in the drought now. things are very dry out around the bay area. we've seen the conditions really are right for seeing some of the danger with the fire conditions out there. so some gusty winds developing, especially in the afternoon hours. we've had some blustery conditions out there. of course, here's the fire in the bottle. some of the winds in around that fire almost 30 miles per hour. that was a westerly wind. so that boy, it generally away for most of the homes in that area but still dangerous and all around the bay area. that's been the concern is that we get these gusty winds, especially into the afternoon and those winds start kicking up just that afternoon. sea breeze gets going around the bay area, some 20 some 30 mile an hour gusts. plus around the bay area. so you fire isn't any time during the day just for any reason. just about most of those

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with a look at any of that little rain that we had over the weekend was good, but it's not going to get us through the summer you know, get through another heat wave later on this week. and of course, all that will start to that great big on it. >> you talk about the fuels, the in brush out there of the they're going to be on the rise again, as we're going to see a much warmer temperatures coming our way, hazy conditions out toward the golden gate bridge. what a nice sight to see though. >> i was actually a record-breaking event with the rain coming in. we 2 tenths of an inch of rain breaking the old record of 1500 setback in 1934. june. yeah, off a very wet. but every once a while, you can see one back in 18, 84 we had over 2 and a half inches of rain that is long on the big changes ahead. now and hot temperatures as we head toward the weekend. but several other places had some records who you had a record in oakland at 0.2, 7, the same with the napa valley and half moon bay. 0.2, 8 and get this on mount tam almost 3 inches of rain. that

karnow. see what's going some marine layer around. yeah. kind of compressing out there now. >> and a lot of folks going to wish they could see that fog in the coming days. it's going to get hot and parts are those temperatures going to soar. national weather service issued couple advisories. in fact, a warning for heat slama county expecting some very hot temperatures. you can see the area shaded here in red, slow county that's going on the hotter spots. but it's going to be hot. the tri valley in the livermore. concord, you get the danville a double and those areas are going to very toasty even starting tomorrow. a san jose saratoga, campbell. yeah, all that go into effect on friday. that's where expecting some of the hotter temperatures tomorrow. it's going to be hot some mid 90's in the interior valleys by tomorrow afternoon, as high as 96 degrees in santa rosa. 91 in napa. 95 in livermore and 88 degrees in san jose. you see a mixed bag of 80's and 90's in the santa clara valley and cooler

let's check in kron 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow with the latest one today. hottest day of the week, hottest day of the season. i mean, too much of a good thing. really came on starting on thursday. the really got cooking today around the bay area. those temperatures soaring into triple digits in places like livermore unconquered. >> antioch, actually checking in at 103 degrees today. now we're seeing that sea beginning to blow. and that is a good sign. if you want some cooler weather, but it's going to be slow going overnight. the excessive heat advisory and warning going to come to an end but still in effect right now, all the areas shaded in orange. those are the heat advisories around the bay area in toward the santa clara valley, the east bay contra costa, alameda county in the north bay in napa. parts solano county. you're looking at an excessive heat warning. so very hot spots around the bay area today. and here's where we sit right now here at 98 degrees. still in vacaville, 90 in fairfield. 83 in pittsburgh. look at those temperatures to 84 degrees.
