and so that is why this committee, the oversight committee, in a letter to the national archives that was obtained by my colleague is asking the archives to try to get them all the documents surrounding these gifts. to create and collect any information they can about which gifts were given, how much they were apprised at, and the like. and the thing here is that we know that there were gifts that were given to president trump on these foreign trips, because they were reported publicly in many instances. there was a marble statue of the gandhi three monkeys statue that was given to president trump in india. that has been reported on. the u.s. government doesn't right now know where that statue is. that is one of the many examples. to explain to folks why all this matters, the chairwoman of the oversight committee in the letter to the national archives wrote this has to do with national security and foreign policy interests of the united states being at risk. about possible violations of constitution which prohibits the president from obtaining benefits from foreign entities while in o

it's also a federal law on submitting false statements and forging documents at the national archives. that's partly what we mean by a form of electoral vigilantism. even if you think you're the victim, you can't take the line tehran hands. >> let's talk about the january 6th hearings. we've heard from the committee over and over again that trump was told there was no legal basis to overturn the election. yet, he pushed on. he persisted. is this the right kind of argument for the committee to be making? >> i think so. i think that they've got a very strong case. at a minimum, it's enough of a threshold that you would think you had to have the justice department open up a robust criminal investigation. it exceeds that line by tenfold. the big question is, does it get you actually to the point of enough evidence that the prosecutors would feel that they're confident in pursuing an indictment. i do think that they've amassed an enormous amount of evidence in that regard. that trump was told it was illegal and he pursued it anyway. and some of the better lawyers on the trump campaign peel

. >> the select committee has obtained never before seen photos from the national archives that show vice president pence sheltering in a secure underground location as rioters overwhelmed the capital. at vice president pence is seen 4:19 p.m., looking at a tweet the president had just sent, a tweet asking the rioters to leave the capitol. after 4.5 hours spent working to restore order, the vice president returned to the senate floor to continue the certification of electors. >> vice president pence was the focus of the violent attack. mr. jacob, did the vice president leave the complex during the attack? >> he did not. >> can you please explain why he refused to leave the capitol complex? >> one we got down to the secure location the secret service , directed us to get into the cars, which i did. then, i noticed the vice president had not. i got out of the car i had gotten into and i understood that the vice president had refused to get into the car. the head of his secret service detail had said, "i assure you we are not going to drive out of the building without your permission."

archives showing the president the off stage tent before his speech on the ellipse. you were in some of those photos as well. and i just want to confirm that that is when you heard the president say, the people with weapons weren't there to hurt him. and then he wanted the secret service to remove the magnetometers. that's correct. and the photos that you displayed, you're standing towards the front of the tent with the tv is really close to where he would walk out to go on to the stage. did these conversations happened 2 to 3 minutes before you took the stage that morning? let's reflect on that for a moment. president trump was aware that a number of the individuals in the crowd had weapons and were wearing body armor. and here's what president trump instructed the crowd to do. we're going to walked out and i'll be there with you. we're going to walk, so we're going to walk down any one you want. when i think right here, we're going to walk down to the capital. and the crowd, as we know, did proceed to the capital. it soon became apparent to the secret service, incl
