good evening, once again, i am stephanie ruhle. tonight, exactly one week after a teenage gunman took 21 lives at an elementary school in uvalde, texas. the very first funerals are getting underway. the murder victims are being laid to rest, the investigation into the shooting, and the police response at the school is only intensifying. there are reports that uvalde police are no longer cooperating with texas authorities. nbc news reporting the school district police chief initially did cooperate. but has yet to respond to requests for follow-up questions made today. texas officials say the chief prevented officers from confronting the shooter, for more than an hour. today, that very same chief was sworn in as a member of the city council. the justice department opening up its own inquiry into the police response. meanwhile, in washington, there are some in congress that believe they might be able to find common ground on some gun safety measures. the house judiciary committee plans to hold an emergency session on thursday on new l

i am stephanie ruhle. tonight, protesters are out in the streets across the country, after the unprecedented supreme court decision, ending roe v. wade. 50 years after it became law. demonstrations have been growing ever since the ruling was announced this morning. five of the courts conservatives voted to overturn roe. samuel alito who is a draft opinion was leaked last month, wrote in his final decision that roe was egregiously wrong from the start. the ruling automatically clears the way for abortion bans in 13 states. at least six states have already put them into effect. and there are concerns about what this may mean for court decisions on contraception, and gay rights. justice clarence thomas says those should be up for review as well. we've got a lot to cover tonight, but i want to begin with my friend and colleague, morrow barrick, our nbc news reporter. she's on the ground, at the supreme court, all day long. morrow, you have been among the protesters for hours. what are they telling you? and wha

stephanie: yeah. just to be clear, my understanding of the ohio law just signed is that it gives teachers the options. so i just want to say that one of the perspectives from supporters of arming teachers is that it gives them the ability to protect themselves and their classrooms if they choose to be armed. is there any scenario in which you see, with the proper training, that a teacher should have that option? becky: you know, i have talked to teachers all over this country. and i will tell you, as a teacher who taught for over 30 years, educato always take that additional responsibility on. they alwayfeel like it's their responsibility to stand in the gaps for our students. so when laws like these are proposed, it puts that pressure on them that the society believes that they are the ones that should be defending our kids with guns. that's not ok to put that pressure on them. and we will continue to speak out against that. stephanie: i know there are a lot of parents speaking out against that as we
