they stop by their hometown parade of highland park. shortly after 10:14 a.m., aidan lost both of his parents. it happened when 21-year-old gunman with a military style ar-15 rifle began shooting. his father kevin used his body as a shield to protect aden. kevin and aden mother was killed by gunfire. when shooting stopped aden was found wandering along the parade routeen with his father's blood smeared on his leg. about this from mayor rotering when i called her after hearing the news that you talked about aden, the little boys they were still trying to identify. as of the photo is cooper roberts, eight years old. he was at the parade that day with his twin brother, and a bullet severed his spinal cord. we pray that he will recover. but for the time being he is battling paralysis from theuf waist down and is undergone at least seven surgeries as result of injuries, including one to reclosable wound in his esophagus. his twin brother luke had betrayed for shrapnel wounds to one of his legs. my heart is broken for these little boys and fo

shortly after the events that occurred in downtown highland park, our team here at highland park hospital was notified of multiple victims that were involved in a mass shooting or casualty event. our team very quickly activated one of our internal messaging codes called code yellow, which is for mass casualty and trauma response to mobilize our surgical teams, to bring in other resources and within a very short amount of time started to receive a number of ambulances from the emergency medical system. we received in total about 26 total patients, ten of which were transported by ambulance. during that time in a very short amount of time, we had nearly 20 additional physicians and 20 additional nursing and support staff here in our emergency department as well as in other areas of the hospital to help take care of the patients that were brought in. and all of those individuals came as a result of following our protocols. we also put in an extra safety or security protocol where we locked down the hospital, hence why we're meeting out here in the parking lot as we continue to try to maintai
