let's go right to abc's senior meteorologist rob marciano. and rob, what can we expect as we start the week here? >> well, whit, more thunderstorms across the upper midwest, including the black hills of south dakota. much of that state is under a severe thunderstorm watch again tonight, as is much of montana. there you see the storms popping. they've been with winds of over 60 miles an hour and that's in effect for the next several hours. that disturbance gets to chicago, minneapolis, parts of wisconsin tomorrow. so that will be a detriment for celebrations in chicago and parts of the midwest. hot in the central part of the country. cool but dry in the west. dry the main factor there. we have critical fire danger across parts of the great basin. las vegas up through salt lake city. strong winds and fireworks concerned. local officials urging people to celebrate safely on this 4th of july. whit? >> all right, rob, thank you. >>> and as dry conditions in the west are a major concern, with so many fireworks displays planned for the fourth, but a

let's get right to rob marciano and, rob, we were talking about this before. whit mentioned again three days of above 90 degrees for a heat wave and in several major cities including in new york city, you believe this could be six to seven days of this? >> yeah, last time we did this was a decade ago and i think the major cities in the northeast will see this stretch. but the heat is only expanding across much of the country through the heartland and through the southern plains. they've had a really bad time and oklahoma, you haven't seen this sort of heat as a state ever. dallas, austin, you set records again today and the warnings remain up through memphis and southern indiana and on the corners, the southwest remains hot and across the northeast i-95 corridor, the next three days looking like this mid-90s, boston nearing 100 degrees in philadelphia. we do have a front that's spawning severe weather across ohio, a weak front and both impacting places like atlanta and charlotte with strong winds and isolated tornado flash flooding but it won't cool us off all
