congressional delegation. the group is saying the trip reaffirms america's support for taiwan on the heels of the controversial visit by nancy pelosi. a visit which sparked a furious response from beijing, which included live fire military drills off the coast of taiwan. the delegation is being led by democratic senator ed markey. cnn's blake is in taipei. blake, let's start with you. how much of a surprise was this, is this congressional visit? >> well, alex, look, these kinds of visits happen from time to time. and we don't often hear about them until after the arrival, and in this case, while taiwan's ministry of foreign affairs say the visit was aannounced, it's the timing that's perhaps the biggest surprise, especially after china reacted so strongly against speaker pelosi's visit. that reaction involved nearly a week of live fire drills surrounding taiwan with war planes and military vessels and missiles that flew over the self-governed island for the first time. this is the second time this month a surp

how is this moving -- or what are you seeing, i should say, in the congressional ballot test? >> the congressional ballot test is a question asked, if the election were held today, would you vote for the democrat or republican in your district. i was not expecting that to change after roe v. wade was overturned based upon some of the polling we were seeing. if you look at the generic ballot today, in fact it is tied. john, i like looking back at history. i don't really ever recall this happening where in fact the momentum is going towards the president's party. because normally over the course of a midterm year, you see the momentum turning against the president's party. but we're seeing democrats gaining ground. while there are other issues, such as gas prices, to me, abortion is the clear line where once that decision happened, you saw democrats gaining ground. and the truth is they really haven't stopped gaining ground. >> and you see special elections, the ballot test shifted. and there have been other things, gas prices and thiengs. also the president's approval rating. w

this is congressional district 12 that was redistricted. this was jerry nadler's district in light blue here and this is carolyn mahoney's district, maloney's district right here in the dark blue, and the new one is in the yellow there. and that created this clash of the titans, two congress people who have been in congress for 30 years, both of them. they're both committee chairs and jerry nadler with a big win in new york. there's one other race here in new york that we're following. it's not been called yet. this is congressional district 10, and it looks like dan goldman is going to pull it out although it's very tight with state assembly woman gnu. this is 95%. it looks like he's going to pull it out we'll see let's look at a couple of other things. first of all, to florida where we now have in the situation of the governor's race a democratic opponent to ron desantis in florida, that is charlie crist, congressman charlie crist. democrat, however also former republican governor charlie crist. he wins over the florida agriculture commis
