dana, thank you for joining us. let's start with macy's. they had a warning that was similar to walmart and target. macy's caters to a little bit of a higher end consumer relative to walmart or target. i'm curious about your thoughts on the earnings dori today. -- story today. dana: it is already baked in very well. it is the third week of earnings season. overall, the downdraft and consumer stock prices year to date for 2022 is based in the expectation moderation. what jeff spoke about today is the bifurcation, the lower end of the higher end of the consumer. we have been seeing that from everyone. what is poignant is a have an increase of 12% of the first half of the quarter and it slowed down in the second half, down 4%. those inventory levels are up 7%. it is a lower number than expected. but the headwind of walmart, target, old navy and many others, it will lead to the back half of the year keeping inventory levels clean and how you manage the margins. kriti: that confuses me on the inventory story. the higher the inventory has not his

dana: wage gains get passed on to inflation. the same people getting those gain are also employees of companies that are saying, we will not absorb these higher costs. then you start having a wage crisis spiral, which the fed does not want. when you look at energy prices, that is going to eat into budgets. certainly into the budgets of your average american. all of that bodes poorly for the consumer and businesses. lisa: how much are you about the housing market weakening and the sentiment dragged but it will have on tumors that have not been -- on consumers that have not been felt yet in the u.s. data? dana: the housing market weakness is par for the course. the that has raised interest rates. we had limited supply and high prices. all of that shakes into an outlet that is negative for housing. we have already seen housing activity cannot. it will continue to weigh on the economy and contribute to what we are forecasting. tom: paul krugman wrote a fantastic essay on the durability of rent inflation. do you agree that the -- tha

dana, you've got new reporting. we've learned about this from a statement from the former president himself. what have you heard? >> that that was intentional. it may seem obvious, but it's important to point out why the former president did what he did. the lengthy statement. this could have been done and we could have gone for weeks and months without knowing about this search warrant, and the fact that the fbi went tamara largo. the former president wanted people to know, he wanted to stir the political pot, because what is happening right now in trump world and among those who are kind of wanting to see, particularly in the republican party, those who may have been drifting away from the former president, what's happening is they are rallying around him. i don't know how long it's going to last. if he isn't real legal jeopardy, which is a big if, which seems like this is narrowly focused on the national archives and what they wanted those 15 boxes. what matters for him and his mine i'm told by people close to hi

i'm dana bash in for jake tapper. we continue with the breaking news, a federal court in florida unsealed the warrant that investigators used to search the home of former president trump. the warrant cites three laws, obstruction, removing of government records, and the espionage act. the warrant listed the classification of documents that were seized from mar-a-lago on monday, including four sets of top secret documents, three sets of secret documents, three sets of confidential documents. and various documents were marked as top secret sensitive compartmentalized information. this would be material so te sensitive that the u.s. goes to excruciating efforts to conceal it. only people with top clearance can read them, and they have to do it in a scif. these scifs require a special lock and have re-enforced walls and electronic methods to prevent spying. i'm going to go to katelyn polantz. you have the warrants. what else are we learning? >> there's more information in here than we could have expected yesterday. there

dana: how much can you revised down? that was an as down the number, more than half a million jobs as of july. revisions will probably be minor. what the labor market is telling us as we still have a strong labor market, many people have seen wages rise, people have been hired in the in person services, and it really is astounding what we are seeing. i do not think the numbers are lying. lisa: tell about what we heard from peter, which i thought was fascinating, he said that people are over hiring. companies are scarred by what happened post-pandemic when they fired people and then to bring on staff that was not there. how much will that be a persistent theme throughout whatever happens in the next cycle? dana: we think labor shortages are here to stay. a lot is demographic. you have more people retiring than young people available. we have strict immigration policies as well, that make it difficult to find a labor from outside of the country. still, you have people that challenge the childcare issue. people do not want
