you are watching san francisco rising. thanks for watching. >> it was an outdoor stadium for track and field, motorcycle and auto and rugby and cricket located in golden gate park, home to professional football, lacross and soccer. adjacent to the indoor arena. built in the 1920s. the san francisco park commission accepted a $100,000 gift from the estate to build a memorial in honor of pioneers in the area. the city and county of san francisco contributed an additional $200,000 and the stadium was built in a year. in the 1930s it was home to several colleges such as usf, santa clara and st. mary's for competition and sporting. in 1946 it became home to the san francisco 49ers where they played nearly 25 years. the stayed de yam sat 60,000 fans. many caught game the rooftops and houses. the niners played the last game against the dallas cowboys january 3, 1971 before moving to candlestick park. the stadium hosted other events before demolition in 1989. it suffered damages from the earthquake. it was reconstructed to seat 10

>> >> you are watching san francisco rising. a special guest today. >> i am chris and you are watching san francisco rising. focused on rebuilding and reimagining our city. our guest is the director of financial justice in the san francisco office of treasure to talk about how the city has taken a national lead in this effort and how the program is comlishing the goals. welcome to the show. >> thanks so much for having me. >> thank you for being here. can we start by talking about the financial justice project in a broad sense. when did the initiative start and what is the intent? >> sure. it launched in 2016. since then we take a hard look at fines, fees, tickets, financial penalties hitting people with low incomes and especially people of color really hard. it is our job to assess and reform these fines and fees. >> do you have any comments for people financially stressed? >> yes. the financial justice project was started in response pop community outcry about the heavy toll of fines and fees. when people struggling face an un

i'm a fire investigator for the city and county of san francisco. the job of a fire investigator is to go after the fire has been put out and to determine the origin and the cause of the fire. so we are the people who after the firefighters have come in and done their magnificent work to extinguish the fire, we go through the fire scene and we are able to find how the fire started. just showing up, being who you are can mean a world of difference to someone. when someone sees you as an identifiably queer person, an identifiable female presenting person or a person of color walk into their home, they can feel more comfortable and more trusting just knowing that you are around and that you may have some insight into their situation and to their community needs that others may not have. the san francisco fire department i'm proud to say goes out of its way to recruit women, minorities, and to the lgbtq+ community, we are awaiting you and wanting you to come join us as a san francisco fire department. no one is going to represent us like you are going t

and san francisco leadership and government as a beacon for the entire country. because we are so up front about what we believe in, we're really up front about inclusivity and i know that, others look at us, many look to us. we've had other departments, contact us in terms of how do you, how do you do this? how do you create a diverse equitable and inclusive workforce? and so, but i would be lying if i said that we don't have any problems in california or in san francisco or in the department. we are out liars, sure? are we doing our best again to address those things with implicit bias training? with changing the culture, our department has made huge huge leaps as has the city and i really feel like san francisco is part of the solution to moving forward in a better way. people are individuals, there are a lot of different types of people in this world and celebrating our differences is what pride is all about. >> so the march started in 2004, there was a lot of action going on at the time against transgender people. so an email thread went around and everybody

meanwhile san francisco is down. one ambulance in this incident could have long lasting impacts on the city's first responders. investigators are still looking for the man who attacked two paramedics as they were waiting for calls in the south of market parking lot that man breaking in the windows with a sharpened stick, forcing the paramedics inside to run for safety. the suspect, then got behind the wheel, trying to mow them down. the fire department says those paramedics are okay, even finishing their shift in another ambulance. the department says mental health care is being made available to them. people do care and people are supporting them s includes money for new firefighter emt and paramedic classes. the concern is a nationwide shortage of first responders and incidents like monday's attack don't help when it comes to recruiting and retaining cruise, but that doesn't mean that we're not staffing. we're staffing with overtimer staffing with mandatory overtime and certain circuit. um, stances. san francisco's

i'm the deputy director in san francisco. my background is one in which i have spent the entirety of my life committed to finding solution to poverty and addressing the issues of inequity so people and communities can have accesses to resources and financial freedom. one thing true anode dear to my heart was the power of business ownership in creating pathways to financial freedom. we have still in infancy. we had over 100 entrepreneurs come and start their businesses. some are food trucks. some are restaurants. some are in farmer's markets and so farther. that's an incredible legacy and record to build upon. this was the perfect opportunity for me to come back home, you know, come back to the neighborhood and take my skills and networks and resources and put it backseat in service of the community. given everything with racial reckoning and pandemic it was time for me and everyone else that had the opportunity to leave and get educated to come back home. we have a opportunity to grow our impact in terms of the number of peop

and here in san francisco jam. any thoughts on why that is why it took so long >> you know, there are many thought about. >> the delay in naming a federal emergency. one reason that we have heard is that because monkeypox is not fatal. there was cops that we should not declare this level of emergency. but while it is not, they don't. that is true. what can't speak overstated is that there is extreme distress, anxiety, fear and very real pain that members of the lgbtq+ community have been going through and there will be very long lasting consequences for the failure that has been the inability to respond quickly to this outbreak. yeah, that's what i want to ask you. what you're hearing from patients about those who have exposure to. >> monkeypox. so we're hearing that it's a skin to skin contact is the primary transmission method. but also that respiratory drops or even on betting in clothes and things like that might lead to transmission. so it seems that medical officials are still trying to figure this out. but w

you are watching san francisco rising. thanks for watching. >> candlestick park known also as the stick was an outdoor stadium for sports and entertainment. built between 1958 to 1960, it was located in the bayview hunters point where it was home to the san francisco giants and 49ers. the last event held was a concert in late 2014. it was demolished in 2015. mlb team the san francisco giants played at candlestick from 1960-1999. fans came to see players such a willie mays and barry bonds, over 38 seasons in the open ballpark. an upper deck expansion was added in the 1970s. there are two world series played at the stick in 1962 and in 198 9. during the 1989 world series against the oakland as they were shook by an earthquake. candlestick's enclosure had minor damages from the quake but its design saved thousands of lives. nfl team the san francisco 49ers played at candlestick from feign 71-2013. it was home to five-time super bowl champion teams and hall of fame players by joe montana, jerry rice and steve jones. in 1982, t

as of yesterday, san francisco is reporting 563 monkeypox cases. california's monkeypox numbers are almost at 2,000. four bay area counties are among the top tep jurisdictions with the most monkeypox cases. those include san francisco, alameda, santa clara and contra costa countys. the hours at the monkeypox vaccine clinic at san francisco general has been extended. it will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. monday through friday depending on spliechlt the current supply should last until thursday. still awaiting word on when they'll receive their next allocation and how much they'll be getting. >> i would just say that san francisco continues to have a higher rate of cases compared to the state overall. we're unfortunately proportionately having a very high rate of monkeypox, as far as i know the highest in the state right now. we expect those numbers to continue to increase. we're not seeing a plateau which is why we're encouraging people to get vaccinated, take prevention measures. >> also happening later today, santa clara county officials will b

alert san francisco, san francisco emergency text message system sent a text message announcement to nearby residents notifying them of the incident. at multiple times during the incident various officers can be heard saying mr. corvera was pointing his gun in their direction while the contact officer continued to speak with mr. corvera. officer number 3 updated a supervisor mr. corvera was on his 80s peaking over the hood of the red car with the gun in his right hand. officer number 3 developed a plan with other officers to bring a patrol vehicle on to the west sidewalk of shotwell street to provide additional cover. officer number 3 continuously updated nearby officers of their plan and of mr. corvera's movements. officer number 3 repositioned to the patrol vehicle driven on to the sidewalk, moved the patrol vehicle forward a short distance and took position behind the driver side of the patrol vehicle. a supervisor directed the contact officer to hollster his department issued handgun and continue speaking with mr. corvera. from the driver seat of the patrol vehicle officer number
