rob tonight from bermuda. >> reporter: tonight, with fiona's outer bands moving in, bermuda is boarding up. officials here sounding the alarm. >> we want residents to please take this storm seriously. >> reporter: locals grabbing essentials while there's still time. power crews assembled and ready. >> this is the time where bermudans depend on us and we will rise and make sure they are protected and they get turned on soon as possible. >> reporter: hurricane fiona is a category 4 beast. c-130s flying inside the storm, measuring hurricane-force winds now out to 70 miles from the center. with the eye of fiona forecast to pass west of the island, that puts bermuda on the bad side of this storm. and you can see the waves churning here on the south coast. this is where the most punishing blow of hurricane fiona will be. as many as eight deaths across the caribbean now attributed to fiona. four days after the storm made its first landfall in puerto rico. more than 900,000 customers remain without power there. and tonight, officials cannot say when it will be restored in the hardest-hit areas.

he's now in bermuda. he's going to time this out. and rob, i know you are also tracking other tropical threats, as well, tonight. >> reporter: lots of action, david. this storm just 600 miles to our south. we've already seen some of the outflow clouds spin overhead and the eye on the satellite picture just looks as menacing. check it out. it's now over the open waters of the atlantic. nothing but warm water and moist air ahead of it. so it will stay a category 4, potentially getting stronger as it passes just to the west of bermuda, late tomorrow night into early friday, and then as a strong damaging storm into atlantic canada. high surf and rip currents for the east coast. as it passes just to our west tomorrow, this computer model says if it does jog east by 50 miles, that would be catastrophic for bermuda. we're on the worst side of this storm. here's all the action in the atlantic. several waves to talk about, but the first, most effective one is going to be the one heading into the caribbean. that one, most of our computer model

fox weather reporter robert ray is live in bermuda, what are you seeing this morning? >> yeah, good morning from bermuda, the small island out in the atlantic ocean, been getting pummelled anyway t-- by the hurricane issue the category 4 hurricane fiona, it is about parallel with the island of bermuda, look at the video from overnight and the wind is coming in, gusts up to 71 miles per hour and the past few hours that is almost hurricane strength. next two or three hours, it is expected to get more intense and taper off into the afternoon as it makes its way up into canada. if we can, take a look at this sail drone video from out in the atlantic ocean, this was yesterday, just a few hundred miles from the island of bermuda. look at the swells, 50-foot wave and that is happen ing around bermuda, just from the north carolina coast. thus far we are right on the virge of those gusts into the world of hurricanes, hurricane winds are 74 miles per hour and the rain continues to come in, this is not a rain maker here in bermuda like we saw in puerto rican, this is a wind machi

back here live in bermuda. and certainly yes, people should be okay here, but they need to heed the warnings even though this hurricane is going to be 100 miles offshore. we're still going to feel the brunt of those potentially even low category one wins. that's 70 miles an hour plus guys and that can create damage down trees and there's going to be 50. foot swells in the atlantic around bermuda starting tomorrow. tomorrow evening into early friday morning, we're going to see the hardest effects here and then get this. i was shocked when our meteorologists in new york were talking about this, it's going to be 600 miles wide when it comes here to bermuda as it tracks up to canada, it's going to widen to 1200 miles. what an amazing piece of energy hurricane fiona is. back to you, robert. i know the state department did issue a travel warning for americans going to and from there like the gentleman said in your piece, he was just going to hunker down. do you get a sense that most people are going to remain in berm

in bermuda. robert ray fox weather ktvu chief media religious bill martin is tracking that storm and bill, what do you imagine fiona is doing in bermuda? at this point? you know it's not a direct hit, but it's a strong hurricane. it's up over a category three in some places, and it's very, very large. and so it's moving slowly. there's nothing worse than a slow moving hurricane and that it's ah, it's just spends more time even if it's you know, it's a smaller hurricane. it just spends more time over over the waters, creating big surf. for bermuda large surf for the eastern seaboard. and if we look in clothes here, right now, it's a category four. it looks like it's going to go to a category three as we head into friday, and then on friday night, it kind of works its way quickly to the north as a category three and then rapidly falls apart. let me move it down here a little bit, and i think the story with fiona is going to be outside of the dominican republic and puerto rico is going to be this ar

so, yeah, it's getting close to use bermuda not too far away. you can you see warnings already up in bermuda for hurricane warnings, but already seeing some of the outer bands moving on shore right now in that area. and it's really not all that far away. in fact, from the eye of the storm system here about 227 miles away. so not much wiggle room. and that's read about, you know, the forecast models look like they're trying to keep it away from bermuda. but should the storm starts make a turn to the right? well, that could have grave or fx makes its way toward the coastline there batters them with tremendous amount of rain and wind. they've already seen a lot of rain today. the potential for some flooding there, real possibility. but right now the track is moving north northeast at 20 miles an hour. and that looks like it is going to take it just outside the island. they're still going to feel the effects. you got all wrap around moisture around that hurricane. but they're not going to see the eye, which is the most important part. it looks like

bermuda is not a direct hit. there's some tropical storm force winds and max gusts at 60 to 80 miles an hour but bermuda is built for that so they'll be fine of the then we'll take this thing northward. we already have rip current advisories and warnings along some of our southeastern beaches. those large waves will arrive today and tomorrow throughout the mid-atlantic and up through the northeast. anyone with any interest on the beaches be prepared for very large waves. the water is very dangerous with rip currents. as far as our friends go, it looks like saturday morning this will become an extra tropical system so a post tropical cyclone. it will still be fiona but it's going to grow in size. there's going to be power outages for weeks in some areas. halifax will be on the weaker side of the storm. but this is where the highest winds will be and where we could have gusts upwards, 100, maybe 120-mile-per-hour winds. our wind forecast only goes out through saturday morning so tomorrow we'll have the updated one

it's going to brush by bermuda tonight, not going to be a huge event by bermuda standards and then we're going to watch the storage accelerating to the north. we have dangerous rip currents and large waves for the east coast beaches. you have to pay attention to all your authorities there if red flags are hoisted pretty much from the southeast to the northeast, and then saturday morning is when the storm will be making its impact. it should be the strongest storm ever to move over land areas in canada in our recorded history. as far as the caribbean goes, we're also going to be watching this area. it opportunity look like it's going to develop anytime soon. as we go through possibly friday night to saturday, this is the development zone, south of puerto rico, south of haiti and all of our extended computer models take it towards the western caribbean. too early to tell if it's florida or the gulf coast, but it does look like a problem for us next week. >>> a one-two legal punch for former president trump. the court writing, quote, trump has not even attempted to show that he has a need t

i think they're getting close to bermuda. but right now live forecast models have been staying off the coastline. they're going to feel the effects of it. they're kind of in that right front quadrant of the hurricane's path. and usually that is a very dangerous area. but they're far enough away. they're not likely to see those hurricane force winds probably tropical storm force winds. they'll see some rise in the sea level as well with the storm surge there, too. but i think for the most part, i think they're going to miss the burn of that storm. maybe more importantly, watch latest track, though. it's not done there. yeah, that's right. looks to possibly come on shore near a nova scotia a possible is weaker storm, but still as a hurricane on saturday morning, that could cause, of course, is some flooding along the coastal areas there. they'll see the upstorm surge to go along with that as well. so the storm system not done by any means. it's got a long way to go. the track is likely to shift here in the next couple of days.

you're looking the bahamas signing of bermuda. so we are looking at the storm system, hopefully staying in a track that's far enough away that they do not encounter those hurricane force winds. i think that's actually going to be the case. here's the very least something on a sustained winds of 130 miles an hour. so it hasn't changed a lot since last night, but this is a very intense storm right near the core of the system. here's bermuda. here's the latest forecast track. and it takes a pretty close. but really outside the island here, but they're going to see these bands rolling across bermuda likely going to see some very localized flooding there, but they're going to miss the worst. looks like field as it stays off the coastline expected continue to track to the north, a weakened slightly, but then coming on shore in nova scotia. expect to see some flooding there that looks like it will take some time to get there. it's going to work its way through the atlantic on friday. and then by saturday morning that coming on shore, pos

it goes right by bermuda. there's bermuda right there. that little area you can see hopefully bermuda will be spared the worst of it as it looks like the eye stays a little bit to the west of them. and then of course, the tracks up and could make contact with some of the maritime a canadian lando. yesterday we looked at this. i said huge store, right? was like 300 miles across. take a look at today. 500 miles across right, massive, just a massive category 4 storm. so very happy that it's not any closer to land, but those islands in the caribbean, it had a really rough ride. meanwhile, back in the bay area, we have our low pressure system, counter clockwise circulation. you can see we've got some lightning firing up as we get into the afternoon, particularly right now in the north bay, in areas like ukiah and up in clear lake. so pretty much extreme north. but still some of these 2 have lightning associated with them. so please be careful if you're going to be out and about also over in the tahoe area. they've had all day today, some light

but we're going to see this getting close to bermuda. they're already feeling the effects that you see the eye of a few on right here. and so they're not that far away. 170 miles away there in the tropical storm force winds already gusting along the coastline and probably going to see some pounding waves along the coast you're going to see a storm surge there as well. but looks like the eye is going to stay off of are being read. and that's some good news. here is the latest forecast model sustained winds of mainta'ning now for another day at 130 mile an hour winds making it a category 4 hurricane extremely dangerous over the next 24 hours. it looks like it's going to pass by bermuda. they're going to feel the effects. you can see all that moisture wrapping around just pounding bermuda, but not getting the main eyewall. so miami probably going to see some damage from some of those strong winds and the heavy rains there as well. but looks like it is going to take focus a little further to the north, possibly making landfall in nova scotia

there is bermuda there. there is the center of fiona equivalent to a category 4 hurricane. 130 miles per hour for our domestic viewers. 1200 kilometers wide. the outer rain bands bringing hurricane force gusts currently to bermuda with the potential for storm surge impacts and localized flooding but this storm will pick up in forward speed. it will have a lot of momentum and has its eyes set for the canadian maritime. this could potentially be a once in a generation storm for these locations. just look at these projected wind gusts. charlottetown, 142 kilometers per hour saturday morning local. that's incredible. that will cause damage. this will be a very impactful storm for this particular area. the gulf of saint lawrence has the potential to experience open ocean swells of 15 meters. that is significant, too. that will change what was hurricane precipitation into snow. some snow possible out of the backside of the system. localized flooding a potential. real potential for western newfoundland and nova sco

we're looking at moving north towards bermuda. tonight into tomorrow morning, we see the impact for bermuda. the location is 485 miles southwest of bermuda. a big storm. winds at 130 miles per hour. gusting higher than that. it started to pick up speed. thats good news. we're seeing it move northeast at 13 miles per hour. also making that turn. it's going to continue to move fairly quickly and then slow down friday into saturday. as it approaches canada. so we do have a hurricane warning that is for the island of bermuda. we expect the impacts as early as this evening. here's that track category 4 storm. expecting it to maintain strength. with the latest update as a 5:00 a.m., we saw category 3. that was downgraded just a bit. a really strong storm. we expect it to stay west of bermuda as we go through tonight and into friday. this is what happens towards the weekend. this is going to be a big story. a historical story. we'll see winds in the canadian maritime that they have never seen. enters the canadian maritime friday into sat

of course, bermuda going to be right. the cross hairs of that storm system going watch out very closely is that looks like an extremely dangerous storm out there in the atlantic. alright, gets get you back out west. we've got thunderstorms popping up around the bay area right now. nothing there. we're sutro cam. just some cumulus clouds in the distance. air temperatures pretty mild around the bay area right now. but yeah, it has been an active day again and numerous lightning strikes. look at that. look at all of thunderstorms popping up around the state, right, noon. numerous strikes out there. flash flood watches have been posted in the central valley as the storms rumble on through potentially dropping significant amounts of rain. most of now in the east bay in the live, more in the concord little further north. now you see some of the storms moving on by going. keep tracking this all evening long. the should begin to weaken somewhat and die out as we head into the next couple of hours. still, we've got more on the way
