we have the national weather service tweeting out we broke some new record daily highs. in gilroy, 107 degrees. the old record was 103. set back in 1998. also, king city, 105 today. the old record 104 in 1975. now these were daily record highs. there is a potential for us to beat all-time highs, and that's as hot as it's better been. let's talk about this high pressure. and why we're seeing this stretch of heat. it's all thanks to this ridge of high pressure. how does that work? high pressure builds above the surface of the earth, and it creates a bit of a heat dome right over -- it could extend as far as several states at a time. typically what happens is the jet stream comes in and helps push that high pressure out, or it just simply falls apart. right now the sea breeze isn't strong enough to push it out. so it's creating a feedback loop. and that's where we get that heat dome from above. not to mention also the skies are very clear. when the skies are clear, the sun heats up the surfaces really fast. that cues up the hot temperatures. to give you an idea, it is 6:00
