. >> reporter: tonight, police in stockton, california, say they have taken a suspected serial killer off the streets that terrorized the community. >> at this time, we have the right person in custody. >> reporter: police say they zeroed in on 43-year-old wesley brownlee through community tips, making the arrest early saturday morning as they say he was lurking around dark areas, looking to kill again. brownlee allegedly armed with a gun. >> he was on a mission to kill. he was out hunting. >> reporter: according to authorities, brownlee is linked to the murders of five men in stockton, one in oakland, and they also believe he shot a woman in april of 2021, who survived. >> this person was near perfect. didn't make many mistakes. purposely stayed in the dark. >> reporter: police say ballistics tests and surveillance video have linked the seven crime scenes, but that recovered gun is still being tested. have you guys been able to link that gun to any of the murders that occurred in stockton or oakland? >> that's part of the ongoing investigation. the atf has been a great partner for us

stockton, crime stoppers, anonymous donors reporting the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> well, in the east bay, oakland, police are investigating the city's 100st homicides so far this year. it happened around 4 yesterday morning on everett avenue in the city's glenview neighborhood. police say they responded to reports of catalytic converter. that's arrive on the scene and they say they found a man who'd been shot multiple times. he was pronounced dead at the scene. no arrests have been made so far. attorney general rob bonta and bay area leaders all came together to address gun violence. bonta highlighted his new office of gun violence prevention which launched. now it's the first in the nation and it aims to address the root causes behind violent acts. is also working to introduce new programs to prevent gun violence. but he acknowledged that effort alone is not enough to for people who don't agree to put the guns down themselves. >> it's not enough to be the nation's gun safety leader when our babies are getting shot in the back seat o
