, and i mean all vermonters. everyone from low income folks to upper middle income folks, all of whom are struggling to survive right now across the state. >> i also wanted to ask you about some of the relationships you have with major advocacy organizations across the state. specifically vermont's largest childcare advocacy program. they have a political action arm that is telling voters to support governor scott. you would seem to be a natural fit for their endorsement, but they support your opponent. i'm curious if you think you might have work to do to strengthen some of these allegiances. flex i think there's a strong power of incumbency in this situation. anyone who gets federal dollars would have been able to spend them in the last six years, but we have to commit, not make a goal -- my opponent has made it only a goal. we have to support our small childcare centers. right now, the legislature allocated a bunch of ending, and the thinking was that these small childcare presenters were going to flood the ma

she was born in a small town in vermont, first language, italian. my father were obviously irish for the name and born in very vermont were. my grandfather. i never knew was also stone carver died of silicosis along so i'm named after and they they had been there in the 1800s also irish immigrants and they both had brought great sense of history a sense of what the country should be, a loyalty to the country, a respect for the country, even though growing up they were very, very much in the minority as has democrats, as catholics, irish, italians. but they saw the evolution and they insisted that we children, my brother and sister. study history and do our best. i became the first lady to get a college degree. my sister is a second and how proud my parents were of that. but they we would sit around, we read the sunday papers, but i had my first library card rights, four years old. but as all of the encouragement by parents who were avid readers, avid readers and my father, who had to leave school in his early teens as or his mother after my grandfat

vermont is a very special state. i can go home, people call me by my first name. i recognize people i've known through my life and i think i've done all i can for vermont. it's been through tumultuous times through the senate and i just wanted to go -- i wanted to leave when i was at the top of my career and i wanted to be remembered for that and, you know, my wife and i want to have more time for ourselves. we've been married 60 years. we want to enjoy the last years. >> just one last question, the average age of the senate at the start of this session was 64.3 years old, which is an age where in most professions, you're hanging it up. is it a good thing that the average age of the senate is there? >> well, when i first came there, i was the second youngest, i was 34. the youngest was joe biden and they called joe or myself the kids, and i remember one very senior senator saying to me, boy, how old are you? 34. anybody tell you you're too young to be in the united states senate. i got my temper up a little bit, yeah, my opponent for one. he loved it because i did

he joins us now live from sell, gone, and vermont are. so i'll start by asking you to reflect on tonight's debate. it obviously got pretty personal and role. but do you think it really shifted opinion was telling was contentious, sometimes even uncomfortably. so both of the candidates focus not as much on the issues at hand, but more on each other's character and their associations. i don't know how many minds it really changed because again, it was hard to really figure out what candidates are for when both sides are really characterizing what the other associated with show will. as she have just mentioned, the supreme court ruling on abortion has really reinvigorated a lot of democrats and potentially swung some versus how much do you think it's changed the dynamics, especially in places like ohio this is actually interesting because you might not see those voters were energized reflected in a lot of the pulling. one of the numbers you can take a look at is how many new registrant's after the supreme court decision, how many new people
