is it clear to you what this means for donald trump? >> well, i think, first of all, kate, big picture. this is a forceful rejection of many of the lies donald trump and others have told about the election and about january 6th. this is a redection of the idea that this was not organized, that this was spontaneous, that this was not serious, that this was not violent. it was a rejection by a jury, our most basic bulwark of liberty, of democracy. juries are not stupid, they can see through the s, and this jury was very carefully. you can see people flip. i've seen plenty of times when someone has said let me go to trial, see what happens. then when you're looking down the barrel of a 20-year sentence, that can change incentives. we don't know if that may happen. but if so we'll see what dominoes may fall. >> ryan, the other big news that we were just talking about with katelyn polantz, her reporting, is that former top trump aide stephen miller has now testified today before the federal grand jury investigating january 6th. and miller wa

if charges are brought against donald trump, he is the guy that will decide that. as you heard in the clip he has decided that is politically complicated now because donald trum announced he is running for the white house and the man who oversees the department and picked them for the job is also likely to return to the campaign trail. donald trump and his supporters often accuse the department of justice of being a political witchhunt. let's say merrick garland, if he stayed in that position, decided, ok, we will prosecute donald trump. mr. trump is on the campaign trail. mr. biden is on the campaign trail if they get the nominations. you can see how the narrative would be used by mr. trump and tepps oor getting to the white house, and so forth. so, by putting in an independent prosecutor, mr. garland wants to insulate him from those accusations. but the truth is, it almost does not matter who they appoint as an independent prosecutor. as far as donald trump is concerned, his supporters are concerned, no one could ever possibly fair enough in their eyes to mr. tru

donald trump's maga base voters. his power emanates from those based voters and they're almost perverse sense of loyalty to him. the thing is, that base is quite large. it was large enough to essentially give donald trump every candidate he wanted out of these republican primaries, with the exception of georgia. of course, that's the problem for the republican party. those kinds of candidates are then poison to swing voters. yeah, of course, the party big rigs want to move on. this guy keeps costing them elections. the question is what our base voters going to do? are they going to abandon trump? will they move on to desantis? look, f talked about the scientists in the focus groups all the time. there is absolutely an audience there for him. that's because they see him as very trumpy. they see him as a fighter. the question is, what happens when he's head to head with trump? >> yes. >> what happens when he's with the guy he's imitating. how does that play with voters? i don't have the answer to that question yet. to
